Tahia te marae!
This piece is inspired by Apanui Ringamutu and the Tui of Kinomoerua at Mauao Maunga.
The Tui would speak as it flew over pā letting Kinomoerua know, a ope was approaching. "Tahia te marae" it spoke signaling to get the marae ready.
Apanui had seeked the tohunga who would lead him to victory in battle, this was Kinomoerua.
The pair went to Mauao and there Kinomoerua spoke the words as they observed the waves crashing over the sacred rock Tirikawa...
"Kā ngaro, kā ngaro, kā ea, kā ea te toka ā Tirikawa" the lesson being although the waves batter Tirikawa and every time it succumbs to the sea, it remains and it stays strong as the tide recedes.
leaving with this saying Apanui left to fight many battles, being successful and building his legacy since that very day.
Tahia te Marae is a reminder that against all adversity, it can be overcome by asserting yourself in all you do, be the rock in the ocean, that never shifts.
Tihei....Mauriora!
