Excited to share that Houndstooth Interiors is a finalist in the 2026 Stella Awards!

Running a business on your own is no small feat. Every role, from designer and project manager to bookkeeper, marketer and cleaner, is done by the same person. I take my hat off to everyone in this category because I know just how hard we all work.

What an awesome night in Auckland at the Interior of the Year Awards!

We were finalists in not one, but two categories, something that still completely blows my mind.

We didn’t bring home a trophy this time, but we did walk away with an incredible feature in HOME Magazine, and honestly, seeing our work in print never gets old. It’s such a special feeling to have your work shared in the pages of a magazine you’ve admired for years.

So grateful to be recognised alongside so many talented designers, and excited for what’s next

A waiting area that feels like it could belong in a Wes Anderson film. I’ve always loved the way he plays with colour, symmetry, and those quiet, thoughtful moments within a space.

That feeling became a big inspiration for the perching areas and flow through Starlight Cinema, creating little spots where people can pause, take it in, and feel part of the experience. 📸

One of the moments I held closest in the design of Starlight Cinema was the feeling of the goodbye.

Not just the welcome, but the sendoff, that quiet transition from story back to reality.

After being wrapped in a film for a few hours, I wanted that final walk to feel soft, considered, and just a little bit transportive. A space where lighting, wallpaper, acoustic paneling, shadow and texture come together to create something immersive, almost like a final scene you move through.

This hallway is that moment. A capsule of time. You could be anywhere in the world.

Moody, layered, and quietly luxurious, it’s designed to hold you just a little longer before you step back out into the crisp Taupō night and into the wild world beyond.

One of our favourite moments within Starlight Cinema is the bathrooms, designed as an immersive, mood-driven experience. The crocodile leather wallpaper brings a tactile, almost cinematic depth, paired with rich, oxblood-toned paint to create a palette that feels both bold and enveloping. Layered over this, the backlit mirrors act as a soft, luminous counterpoint, casting a diffused glow that heightens the atmosphere and completes the space with a sense of quiet drama. .taupo

I’m so excited to begin sharing our latest completed project, Starlight Cinema. This space has been an incredibly thoughtful journey, from early concepting and spatial planning through to the final layered palette. Every detail has been carefully considered: the textiles, paint finishes, lighting, wall coverings, and carpet all working together as a cohesive, woven expression of the design vision.

I can’t wait to reveal more imagery of this beautiful project, especially for those who haven’t yet had the chance to experience the cinema in person. It’s truly been an honour to be part of bringing this space to life .taupo Wade Construction Ltd

Wow!! What an unexpected and special surprise. Feeling incredibly honoured to be featured in today’s Sunday Star-Times Magazine. It’s pretty surreal to see my name in large print within such an iconic New Zealand publication, and even more meaningful to be representing creative work coming out of a small town. Feeling very proud.
