When I found this painting in a local antique shop a couple of years ago, my heart literally skipped a beat, I lost my breath and got the most intense goose bumps!
I have had a photocopy of this beautiful, nameless, Wahine for about 24 years. The photocopy was given to me by the artist, Andre Noffz.
Andre painted the original from a photo given to him by her whanau. From what he told me way back then, she had taken her own life and her whanau wanted a portrait of her to honor her memory.
Unfortunately before he could give the finished painting to the whanu he lost contact with them.
A prolific painter, Andre passed away a few years ago and sadly many of his 100s of works were sent to the dump. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase another of his works from the estate.
But I had often wondered where the original of the gorgeous wahine went. So to have found her and actually have her in my care felt such an honor.
Today I have finally given her this perfect tray frame. It's almost like a hug the way it holds her 🙏
I will continue to care for her, however, I would love for her to be returned to her Whanau. So if anyone out there recognizes her, or, if you could share this post maybe we can send her home 🙏
