HAPPY VALENTINES DAY
The 14 February Valentines Day celebration was started way back in the 14th century. It is linked the Christian martyr, Valentine. However, there are three Saint Valentines and two stories worth telling:-

The first story is from the 3rd century priest who married young men, destined to be soldiers, in secret against the emperor’s wishes that single men made better soldiers.

The second story is about the how an imprisoned Valentine fell in love with the jailers daughter and sent her a “love” letter before he was executed.

It is Auckland Anniversary weekend. Did you know that this holiday was actually started in 1840 and was in October. It was moved to the 29th January in 1841 and then moved to the long weekend we now enjoy.

Every year there is a regatta in the Waitematā harbour. Originally any type of sailing vessel could be seen, from dinghies to whaleboats - sailing ships, wakas, fishing boats. in 1903 power boats came along and then in 1919 seaplanes. What a sight that must have been.

Good luck to all those that participate and we hope the weather is good for the event.

Easy kids craft for Christmas. Affordable and fun.

Try my quick and easy recipe - great to get the kids involved too.
Mars Bars Truffles
Ingredients
• 4 x Mars Bars – chopped
• 90g butter – chopped
• 3 cups rice bubbles
• 80g Baking Chocolate – Melted (not needed until end)
Keeps for 1 week in Fridge
Step 1:
• Line a baking tray
• Place Mars bars & Butter in a saucepan over low heat
• Stir constantly, without boiling, for 5-7 mins or until melted and smooth
• Pour mixture into a heat proof bowl.
• Add rice bubbles stir until well combined
Step 2:
• Working quickly, using damp hands, press and roll 1 level Tablespoon of mixture into balls.
• Be quick or the mixture will set.
• Place on prepared tray.
Step 3:
• Spoon melted chocolate into a small plastic bag (a zip lock bag works great).
• Snip off a corner.
• Pipe chocolate over balls
• Refrigerate for 20 minutes or until set.
