Lotus Realm Music Shop & Bazaar is the Biggest Little Music shop in the Coromandel region. It started life as the Green Goblin Market Barrow Stall in Grahamstown at the Thames Markets in 1998, then it bloomed into a tiny secondhand store a couple of years later which further blossomed into a gift shop and music shop, with a wholesale wing importing goods from Australia, India, Indonesia and has ev

olved as a Buddhist work-as-spiritual-practice model. The Team includes a diverse and talented bunch of individuals who enjoy being part of an enterprise that is aiming to bring more creativity and positive values into the local community. We enjoy mentoring young people in the workplace, and fund that through our donated goods stalls in the Bazaar. The Lotus Realm is part of the Sudarshanaloka Trust, a registered charity, and supports the efforts of the local Sudarshanaloka Retreat Centre situated in a lush bushclad valley at Tararu, Thames. The shop also acts as a "front door" to the Retreat Centre and a supply stop for Retreatant needs. We love to meet locals and visitors to our little town (and we are at the cool end of town, in fact we have helped make it the cool end of town!). Lotus Realm also is the home of the The Back Room an intimate music and performance venue and exhibition space; and The Bazaar, an indoor shopping arcade in the heart of historic Grahamstown stocking new and upcycled clothing, accessories, collectables, glassware, books of all kinds, jewellery, salt lamps, rugs, locally made art and handcrafted items, furniture, ornaments, decor items, music memorabilia, CDs DVDs, Vinyl LPS, retro and collectable music mags. Coming full circle we now have an Op Shop named The Green Goblin to honour our roots! We welcome involvement in our various activities by volunteers, and also good quality donated items so if you have some time, skills or enthusiasm to offer, and want to hang out with some friendly folk please come and see us.

Our Story

Lotus Realm Music Shop and Emporium is the Biggest Little Music shop in the Coromandel region. It started life as a Market Barrow Stall in Grahamstown at theThames Markets in 1998, then it bloomed into a tiny secondhand store a couple of years later which further blossomed into a pukka gift shop and music shop, with a wholesale wing importing goods from Australia, India, Indonesia and has evolved as a buddhist Work-as-spiritual-practice model. The Team includes a diverse and talented bunch of individuals who enjoy being part of an enterprise that is aiming to bring more creativity and positive values into the local community.

The Lotus Realm is part of the Sudarshanaloka Trust, a registered charity, and supports the efforts of the local Sudarshanaloka Retreat Centre situated in a lush bushclad valley at Tararu, Thames. The shop acts as a bit of a "front door" to the Retreat Centre and a supply stop for Retreatant needs. We love to meet locals and visitors to our little town (and we are at the cool end of town, in fact we have helped make it the cool end of town!). We welcome involvement in our various activities by volunteers, so if you have some time, skills or enthusiasm to offer, and want to hang out with some friendly folk please come and see us.

We now have a cranking little creative community performance venue know as ‘the Back Room’ @ Lotus Realm, which has already had numerous art exhibitions and Live music concerts featuring International and local performers. Pop in and have a look, maybe it might be right for your next event... and our TEA ROOM featuring a delicious very budget cosy nook to enjoy some plant-based delicious food and specialty Teas and organic french press coffee. Now you can wander through to the BAZAAR, an indoor shopping arcade in the heart of historic Grahamstown where you will find Collectable NZ books; art on display: currently photography by Rachel Holmes; locally handmade ceramics, textiles and art by Sue Clark; retro and vintage clothing and fun accessories in Suits You, Sir! and the Fabulous Boutique; Chairman of the Bored vintage furniture with a twist; No Prob-llama budget South American clothing; the esoteric treasure trove that is the Magick Shop; the Green Goblin Op Shop at the back door, fundraising for Lotus Realm’s community projects.
