We are fortunate enough to work with this special Melbourne based company and purchase an exclusive selection of their collection direct from their warehouse in Japan. The ceramics and tableware we purchase are from small family-run businesses in Japan that have been making ceramics for hundreds of years. Functional, well designed, durable and unique. Owners Tania Siladi and Brent Wong are a brother and sister team that have worked together for over 13 years. Born and bred in Wellington, but of Chinese and European descent, both lived extensively overseas in Asia and Europe. Upon returning to New Zealand their first venture together was a waterfront restaurant in Wellington. Not long after, they designed, built and opened Dragonfly – Wellington’s premier modern Asian dining lounge. Quickly following Dragonfly’s success they launched Asian Food Republic to make restaurant quality food available in people’s homes. The tableware they began importinginto New Zealand specifically for Dragonfly grew into its own business as other restaurants and retailers discovered they could purchase from them. This forged a strong and special relationship with well known Melbourne based company Made In Japan. As the businesses grew and developed, they realized the need for a store, both in Wellington and online, so Orient was established. Filling another gap in the market, Orient began creating its own Asian inspired paper collection, which has expanded to candles and selected beautiful Asian inspired homeware. Tania and Brent are passionate modern Asians, living and breathing their stunning food and interior collections they create.
