Throwback to 2021—I had the opportunity to provide my Large Seed paper light shades for Athfield Architects’ award-winning restoration of 100 Cuba Street, originally the Farmers department store and now home to Greater Wellington Regional Council.
Athfield Architects did an incredible job preserving the building’s heritage while creating a light, open office space that feels connected to nature. The original pressed tin ceiling was carefully restored, and they also re-exposed existing skylights, allowing gorgeous natural light to the space. Salvaged matai boards and totora were used for flooring and gorgeous wall panels. The shades compliment the space beautifully over two levels, adding diffused light, texture, and subtle detail.
This thoughtful restoration earned the 2021 Wellington Interior Architecture Award and the 2021 Wellington Heritage Architecture Award—well deserved for such a considered and cohesive design.
This project was an absolute joy to be part of. ✨
