A little peek into how a living room comes together.

Early in the process, we use mood boards to explore the feeling, color, materials and overall direction of the space. From there, floor plans and elevations help us work through layout, scale and all the details before anything gets built or ordered.

Then comes the really fun part: seeing those early ideas become the room we imagined.

The right white changes everything.

White may be the most underestimated color in the paint deck. It doesn’t just sit quietly on the wall. It picks up and reflects what’s happening around it.

Natural light, flooring, stone, cabinetry and even the landscape outside your windows can make a white suddenly read creamy, gray, pink, blue or green.

We also consider LRV, or Light Reflectance Value, which tells us how much light a paint color reflects. A higher LRV can make a white feel brighter and more reflective, while a lower LRV can give it more depth and softness.

That’s why we never choose white in isolation. We consider the undertone, the LRV, the surrounding materials and how the light changes throughout the day.

Designer tip: Don’t ask, “What’s the best white?” Ask, “What’s the best white for everything happening in this room?”

Design Crush: SkLO ✨

We recently welcomed SkLO into our San Francisco studio and fell hard for their beautifully sculptural approach to lighting.

Rooted in centuries-old Czech glassblowing traditions, every SkLO glass element is handblown in the Czech Republic, and their lighting is built to order. We love how they celebrate the subtle variations that come from working by hand, making craft and process part of the design itself.

Modern, expressive and deeply connected to the makers behind it. Definitely a Loczi Design Crush.

BLACK ISN’T JUST BLACK.

Choosing black paint sounds simple, until you put five blacks next to each other and realize they’re completely different colors.

Some blacks lean warm and brown, others cool and blue, while others carry green, charcoal or even purple undertones. Those subtle differences can completely change how a space feels.

When choosing the right black, we look at:

• What’s around it? Flooring, stone, wood and fabrics can pull out different undertones.
• How much light does the room get? Natural light can soften black, while low light can make it feel deeper.
• What sheen are we using? Matte absorbs light and feels soft and architectural, while satin or gloss feels sharper and more graphic.

Designer tip: Always sample black LARGE and look at it throughout the day. The black you love at 10am may look completely different at 7pm.

A little bathroom progress peek 💛

We’re having so much fun watching this one come together. Bold yellow color blocking brings an unexpected dose of personality, while a gorgeous swag light and our custom-designed wall-hung shelf over the toilet add just the right mix of function and fun.
