"From a Distance" — a melody from my younger years
This piece holds a special place in my heart. I first played "From a Distance" back when I was in third year high school (few days after 911 attack), young, full of dreams, and endlessly in love with music.
Listening to it again today feels like opening a time capsule. Every note brings back memories, of piano lessons days, those practices, how i carried the keyboard at school just to let my teachers hear the piece, and that simple joy of just playing without worries. Not to mention the nervousness it brought back then on actual performance at stage.
Time truly flies. I honestly don’t know if I can still play it the same way now, but hearing it again makes me feel young at heart.
And today, I’m hoping to pass on this piece to my ausome student, I know he can do it! Because music is meant to be shared, felt, and relived through new hands and new hearts.
