Most Filipinos think soil testing is “optional.”
Or “pang-big projects lang.”
Or “baka dagdag gastos lang yan.”

Most homeowners blame the contractor.

How soft the soil is

How deep the bedrock is

How much weight the soil can support

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐈 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐏𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 — 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐈 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐃

For the longest time, akala ko simple lang ang negosyo:

Work hard.
Be honest.
Treat people fairly.
And people will do the same.

Pero mali pala.

The business world is not built for men who are too trusting, too hopeful, and too naive.
At dito ko mas naintindihan ang matagal nang sinulat ni Niccolò Machiavelli — na sa mundo ng power, influence, at pera…

Hindi ang pinakamabait ang nananalo,
kundi ang pinaka-strategic.

1. HOW I WAS EXPLOITED IN BUSINESS

I trusted the wrong business associates.
Mga tao na akala ko “partners”… pero ang tunay na intention pala is to:

• use my skills
• use my resources
• use my connections
• use my willingness to help
• and leave me drained once they got what they wanted

At madalas, ang style nila pare-pareho:

➡️ magpapakita ng “loyalty”
➡️ magpapanggap na “team player”
➡️ magbebenta ng illusions ng long-term success
➡️ tapos pag nakuha na nila ang advantage…
iiwan ka bigla o sisirain ka pa.

Akala ko dati isolated cases lang.
Pero hindi pala — pattern pala siya.
Pattern ng mga taong gutom sa kapangyarihan, pero tamad sa integridad.

2. BUSINESS IS A GAME OF POWER — NOT SENTIMENT

Sabi ni Machiavelli:

“The man who wants to be good in all things will be ruined among those who are not.”

Sa industriya, lalo na sa construction, engineering, logistics, o kahit anong negosyo:

• Kapag sobra kang accommodating, sasamantalahin ka.
• Kapag sobra kang transparent, gagalawin ka.
• Kapag sobra kang nagbababa ng guard, papasukin ka.

In business, people don’t attack your strength.
They attack your softness.

And I learned that the hard way.

3. THEY DIDN’T OUTSMART ME — I OUTTRUSTED THEM

Ang totoo?

Hindi sila mas magaling.
Hindi sila mas talented.
Hindi sila mas visionary.

Pero they were:

• more strategic
• more calculative
• mas alert sa motives
• mas marunong mag-manipulate ng perception
• mas sanay sa “power game” ng industriya

While I was building…
They were scheming.

While I was contributing…
They were calculating.

And while I was thinking long-term…
They were thinking how to benefit now.

Ang sakit aminin, pero tama si Machiavelli:

Men lose power not because others are better…
but because they trust too quickly.

4. THE WAKE-UP CALL

Dumating ako sa point na sinabi ko sa sarili ko:

“Hindi ako papayag na gamitin ako ng mga taong walang ambag, walang honor, at walang long-term vision.”

Because I realized:

• not everyone who smiles at you is your ally
• not everyone who praises you wants your success
• not everyone who calls you “partner” is a partner

And most importantly:

In business, loyalty is rare but manipulation is common.

5. THE MAN I’M BECOMING NOW

Ngayon, I operate differently:

✔️ I observe more than I speak
✔️ I trust slowly, verify deeply
✔️ I read intentions, not words
✔️ I know when to be diplomatic… and when to be firm
✔️ I protect my value instead of giving it away
✔️ I no longer allow anyone to exploit my generosity or vision

I’m still a good man —
but I’m no longer a blind one.

And in business, that’s the difference between being respected
and being used.

FINAL WORD

Machiavelli wasn’t teaching men to be cruel.
He was teaching men not to be victims.

And now, I understand.

Be good when you can.
But never be afraid to be strategic when you must.

Because in business:

A man with no boundaries becomes a tool.
A man with no strategy becomes prey.
A man with no clarity becomes a casualty.

I learned the lesson the hard way —
but I learned it.

And now?

No one exploits me twice.
