Here's the next motif I'm making. I'm not exactly sure what it is but looks like a flower with a leaf on each side! The pattern is in symbol form. The red line shows where the padding cord goes along with the stitches. The red arrows show where the pattern begins and ends. I probably have some Irish crochet tutorials on Crochetology.net. Have a look and just make a keyword search for "Irish crochet." Let's go!🤗

Let's try Irish crochet motifs this time. It really is one of my fave crochet techniques, lending wonderfully to learning freeform. I haven't crocheted in this technique in quite a while, so I will need to take some time learning again. Would you like to join me? Let's go!

Vintage patterns are in the public domain, so those were the first patterns I used in crochet. This little bag was one of my early projects in 2007. The bag is called Princess Louise No 275 and was published in 1917 by Corticelli Silk Mills in Florence, Mass., USA.

Today I started with no 8 mercerized cotton thread and 1.2mm steel hook. I had to file away the rust off the hook before I could start crocheting. I guess things tend to rust and disintegrate if we don't use them for a long time. If you'd like to make this bag, do join me!

My notes on this pattern is at https://www.crochetology.net/2015/05/princess-louise-bag-1917.html

For the anxious, depressed, alienated, traumtized person seeking "treatment" in the realm of psychology, the menu of psychological techniques are essentially the same. It is centered upon facilitating a relational environment, usually between the therapist and the client, aimed at building the client's confidence through a deeper understanding of themselves. Most of humanistic, experiential, person-centered, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapies rely upon the principle that self-awareness and self-realization are essential in the therapeutic process.

This is the complete opposite of biblical Christianity.

In "Why Worry? God's in Charge!",* Alistair Begg depicts the anguished man coming to psychotherapy and there he is told to run into the self, the only retreat of a crumbling world. Jesus does the absolute reverse. He said look away from yourself, seek first the Kingdom.

If you want to talk about the biblical Jesus and mental health and life issues, send me a message to make an appointment to visit. There's art, garden, sunshine, coffee and food to share.

Over the years, I've collected books and beautiful yarns swatches. That Stitchionary from Vogue Knitting helped me put together different stitch patterns to make something new. The Japanese crochet and knit magazines, available at National Book Store at that time, used crochet symbols, and that was how I learned to read symbols. The Russian and Ukrainian Duplet Ukrainian Crochet Magazines also used symbols almost exclusively, and those magazines really helped speed up learning to modify patterns. The Magic Crochet magazines are by a publisher in France and were given to me as a gift from the US. And finally those lovely yarn swatches came from Lotus Yarns, my source of beautiful luxury fibers in Cashmere, Tibetan Yak, Camel, Merino and Mink. I crocheted a lot of items and when my husband passed away, I have given nearly everything away to recover some space and ease the task of cleaning up at home. I love my new spaces now and the few good books that I still have.

This is all the yarn I have left, most are odds and ends, bought or given by friends. I've given away a lot of yarns during all that time I haven't been crocheting. That was a good idea because on this humid island province, natural fibers tend to deteriorate quickly. When not crocheting I also wound the yarn hanks into balls. Now that was probably not a good idea because that stretched the yarns and probably damaged them in nearly 10 years of storage.

The second photo show yarns bought from Lotus Yarns. They are lovely natural fiber, in this case cashmere blend with either silk or cotton. The insects have eaten them away. 3rd photo are yarn cakes bought from Cebu, I think these are polyester-cotton. Those don't deteriorate easily. 4th photo are hand-dyed silk. There was a time when I tried dyeing yarns. 5th photo shows some of fancy yarns I got from the Turkish seller Ice Yarn Paradise. Since these are natural fibers blended with synthetics, these won''t disintegrate at all 😅 6th are what's left of nearly 10kgs of silk I got from India. And last photo shows this ultra lovely honey-colored suri alpaca from longtime crochet and art friend Lori. This was when I was learning how to spin.

I think I'm not ever going to hoard yarn anymore. 😅
