A unique product line using abaca as the main material. The abaca is planted and harvested by farmers and rebel returnees in the mountains of Lagonglong. Using heirloom hand-looms, the women and a few men in town weave the abaca into sinamay (loosely woven abaca cloth) and hinabul (densely woven abaca cloth). Creative twists – or treats – involve weaving in dried grass, cotton, paper, and even aluminum wire. And a thing of beauty emerges. Metaphor. Memory. Moment, or memento. Tinabuan Arts & Crafts is an ancestral home that once included a general store, a bakery, and a pharmacy. Finally caught a rare break today, tucked away in a cozy corner of my favorite local cafe.

​With a rich brew in hand, a good book, and my trusty Tinabuan bag resting right beside me, my mind kept wandering between the pages and the city outside.

Quiet moments like this always get me dreaming up the next CdO adventure, whether that's hitting the rapids on the Cagayan River, watching the sunset from Uptown CdO, or spending an afternoon exploring new cafe spots in Nazareth.
