ARTIST PROFILE
Jojo started his professional career doing fashion accessories and portrait. He also worked on high-end furniture and reproducing the works of European Master based renderings with Maitland Smith Philippines, Wicker-Vine and Gold Coast. These experiences helped a great deal in the growth of his Art particularly in the practice of discipline. In 1990, Jojo joined the Cebu Art Associ
ation and presently he is the vice-president of the Association. He began with a fruitful and rewarding art career. He placed numerous art competitions. He joined 80 group painting exhibit and 6 two-man shows since 1990 up to the present. In Gubalane’s early year as an artist, his works were mostly done on canvass with acrylics and oils. He became interested in contemporary art using new mediums and created many different types of themes such as socio-realism. He feels intrigued by modern art and says that the images became ever changing as light passed through them from various angles, creating new colors and casting colorful changing patterns on all surfaces around them. In the last 18 years, Gubalane’s passion for art has moved into a much higher dimension. He can create a work with a sense of values and freely interprets from his own expression. In other word, an art with a messages and content is what he is aspiring of. SELECTED AWARDS AND EXHIBITS
