Where Art Connects: Inside Maguindingan Creatives
Across Mindanao, artists are building more than individual practices. They are also building connections—and Maguindingan Creatives is one expression of that effort.
The collective brings together artists and creatives from different parts of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and beyond, united by a shared connection to art, community, and culture. Its members work across different forms, from painting and illustration to crafts, artisan products, photography, video, and digital art. Rather than asking artists to fit into one category, the collective makes room for that diversity.
Maguindingan Creatives grew from an existing network of people within the creative community who wanted to create more opportunities for local artists to be seen, collaborate, and contribute. Its members already have their own identities, audiences, niches, and artistic journeys. The collective does not replace those individual paths. Instead, it gives them another space to meet.
That distinction is important. In a creative environment where comparison can easily become competition, the group embraces the idea that each artist has a different pace and purpose. Growth, for its members, is less about measuring one career against another and more about becoming better versions of themselves.
Its projects often touch on culture, heritage, identity, and community, while leaving room for artists to tell their stories in their own ways. Exhibitions are also treated as opportunities for participation. Workshops and creative activities allow audiences to move beyond simply looking at art and experience the process of making it.
For Maguindingan Creatives, this is part of a larger goal: creating visibility for talent outside the country’s usual art centers while helping preserve and share local stories through creative expression.
The collective hopes to continue developing exhibitions, workshops, collaborations, and opportunities for artists and audiences alike. At its heart is a simple belief: art does not have to look the same to bring people together. It only needs to give them a language through which they can connect.
