Starting Over at 37 Doesn't Mean I'm Too Late 🥹
Maybe you're 30 and still waiting to get married.
Maybe you're 35 and still praying for a baby.
Maybe you're 40 and wondering if it's still possible to build the family you've always dreamed of.
Maybe you're starting a career again after a setback.
Maybe you're trying to build a house, save for one, or finally make your finances work.
Maybe you're learning a new skill because the skills you once had are no longer enough for the season you're in.
Maybe you're starting a new business.
Maybe you're leaving a relationship that no longer feels healthy and trying to figure out how to rebuild your life.
Or maybe, like me, you're simply starting over.
At 37.
And I had to do the same.
I had built a career before. I had worked hard, learned my craft, and eventually got a promotion that could have shaped our future.
I thought I knew where my career was going.
Then God redirected me.
And I had to start over on a different career path.
I got married at 31.
I became a mother at 33.
And somewhere along the way, I had to let go of some of the dreams I thought I was supposed to have.
I gave up what I thought my dreams were.
Then I started over on a path that was uncertain and completely new to me.
I tried to build businesses, too.
One lasted two years.
Another lasted six months.
And another one?
I don't even know how long it will last.
Even in relationships, there are seasons when we have to start over—whether that's rebuilding trust, learning to communicate differently, setting healthier boundaries, or simply choosing to begin again after something didn't go the way we hoped.
Some stories are mine to share.
Some aren't.
But I know I'm not the only one who has had to start again.
Because that's life, isn't it?
Sometimes we make plans.
Sometimes those plans work.
Sometimes they don't.
Sometimes we reach the milestone we prayed for, only to discover that the next season requires us to begin again.
And sometimes, we look around and realize that the life we have today doesn't look anything like the life we imagined when we were younger.
But here's one thing I learned in my starting-over seasons:
Starting something—or starting over—at whatever age, status, or season you are in is not always being too late.
Sometimes, it is simply choosing to walk by faith.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:7, KJV
We naturally measure our lives by what we can see.
Our age.
Our marriage.
Our children.
Our career.
Our house.
Our business.
Our achievements.
And when we don't have those things at the age or timeline we expected, we start thinking we're behind.
But God doesn't measure our lives the way we do.
Our achievements and possessions are temporary. They are blessings we should be grateful for and good stewards of, but they are not the measure of our worth or the measure of God's work in our lives.
God sees our hearts.
He sees how we handled the season He gave us.
He sees whether we trusted Him when we didn't understand.
He sees whether we remained faithful when things didn't happen according to our timeline.
And sometimes, what looks like starting over is simply preparation for something we cannot see yet.
Paul said:
“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
— 1 Corinthians 2:9, KJV
We simply don't know everything God is preparing.
So if you're still waiting, still learning, still rebuilding, or starting again, don't automatically call yourself a failure.
Maybe you're not behind.
Maybe you're just in a different season.
And don't think you're starting from zero, either.
You are starting with everything you've already learned.
The skills.
The experience.
The mistakes.
The lessons.
The wisdom.
Even the things that didn't work can teach you something valuable for the next thing God puts in your hands.
I had to learn this myself.
I don't know exactly where my current career path will take me.
I don't know which of my business ideas will last.
I don't know what the next few years will look like.
But I know this:
I don't have to see the whole path to take the next step.
If God is leading, I can start.
I can learn.
I can try again.
I can make mistakes and learn from them.
I can keep going.
So if you're reading this and you're still waiting for something you've been praying for, don't be discouraged.
Still longing to get married in your 30s?
Still praying for a baby in your 40s?
Still hoping to build your own home?
Still trying to recover financially?
Still learning a new skill?
Still dreaming about starting a business?
Still trying to rebuild after a difficult relationship?
Still hoping for a change, improvement, or breakthrough?
God knows it.
And while we don't know exactly what His plan will look like, we can trust the One who does.
Your job is not to figure out the entire future.
Your job is to be faithful with what God has placed in front of you today.
Keep being a good steward of what God has already placed in your hands.
And if He is leading you into something new, don't be afraid to begin again.
At 25.
At 30.
At 37.
At 40.
At 50.
At 60.
At whatever age you are.
Because starting over doesn't always mean you failed.
Sometimes, it means you finally have the courage to follow where God is leading.
And maybe one day, when you look back at this season, you'll realize:
God wasn't making me start over.
He was leading me somewhere I couldn't see yet. ❤️
