I’ve spent le vacanze estive at the place where after only 10 minutes, I feel instantly relaxed. The quiet rhythm of the waves, the sound of the wind, the azzurri azzurri colors that seems to sparkle on the horizon. I’ve always loved the ocean. I love to just be there are do nothing. No to-do list. No tech. Just space to gaze, ponder, and reflect. I’ve enjoyed painting watercolor works, reading good books, taking long walks with my boys looking for seashells, and watching them build sand castles with massive creative proportions. I’ve shared meaningful conversations with my husband with no distractions. I think it’s important that we remember life is not a hustle. It’s not a sprint. It’s a gift to be treasured and spent wisely. It’s good to reset and refresh. How much does our world need it?! If you’re feeling a bit anxious in your soul today, I invite you to stop and look at the nature around you. Unplug. Reset. Welcome true rest in.

Moments of the mattinata that set my heart for the day ahead. What morning habits make a difference for you?

Waking up early.

Espresso brewing in the moka pot filling the house with the scent of coffee.

Time alone to reflect and pray.

Time to sip my daily cappuccino.

Starting the day fresh and at peace is a discipline I crave and makes all the difference for me.

Stracciatella Gelato Recipe: For the Fourth of July, we had some friends over and I wanted to make homemade ice cream as we always do for tradition’s sake. I normally make a simple vanilla gelato when I make homemade ice cream, but I wanted to do something different this year.

When my husband and I owned our gelateria, Stracciatella was one of our most popular flavors. It’s a lot like Chocolate Chip, but has more irregular pieces of chocolate.

Stracciatella comes from the Italian word stracciare, which means “to tear” or “to shred.” The word can refer to an egg-drop soup from Rome, a shredded curd cheese from Puglia, or a chocolate-shredded gelato from the Lombardy region.

Even if you don’t have a “gelato machine,” you can make this simple gelato recipe at home. I use an old fashioned wooden ice cream maker.

If you are looking for a good gelato recipe, this is it! Comment GELATO and I’ll send the recipe to your inbox. 💌

Bruschetta (bru-sket-tah) with tomatoes and fresh basil is something I make sooo often during the summer months. My dear Roman friend Ivana, used to make her bruschetta this way and would often make it as an antipasto or with an aperitivo—it also makes a simple no-cook lunch or supper when it’s 100 degrees outside and you want something light. All you need is some toasted bread, fresh tomatoes and basil, a bit of salt and quality olive oil. Beat the heat with this simple recipe!

What is it about Italy that has been mesmerizing our souls for decades?

Is it the story it tells through history, architecture, and culture? Is it the food that makes us taste like we’ve never tasted before? Is it the breathtaking views that seem otherworldly? Is it the people that warm our hearts with hospitality and authenticity? Is it the colors that ignite our creativity and awareness of the beauty around us? Is it the language that evokes personality and expression for life? Is it the rhythm and pace that seems to rewind us to a simpler and tangible time? Is it that Italy makes us feel alive?

Maybe it’s all of it?

Not how I expected to start this summer, but learning to bear fruit in all circumstances and choose gratitude. If you too are experiencing a different start to summer, I want to share with you in hopes to encourage you that we can grow right where we are. Slowing down isn’t always the way we imagine, but it can still be a glorious gift. 💛
