Early this morning I opened my Bible.
Not to study.
Not to prepare a teaching.
Just… to breathe.
I was reading the book of Judges.
Chapter 3.
And napansin ko something that felt painfully familiar.
Paulit-ulit.
The Israelites would sin.
Then cry out to God.
Then God would rescue them.
Then after some time…
they would fall into sin again.
Cycle.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Grabe.
Parang ako lang.
(ikaw rin ba minsan? hehe)
You know that feeling?
Yung feeling na parang…
you don’t deserve God’s love anymore.
Because you’ve messed up too many times.
Same struggle.
Same weakness.
Same prayer.
Same apology.
Meanwhile my brain felt like 15 browser tabs open.
Bayaran nanaman ng bills.
Tapos wala pa akong work.
Paano ang HMO ng parents.
May interview mamaya.
Life.
Then in the middle of that noise…
the Holy Spirit gently prompted my heart.
That small voice.
Soft.
Quiet.
But clear.
“Come to me and I will give you rest.”
And honestly…
I almost cried.
Because in that moment I felt the love of God.
Not the disappointed kind.
Not the “you failed again” kind.
But the kind that says,
“I’m still here.”
So instead of rushing through chapters…
I slowed down.
Not five chapters.
Not a long devotional.
Just one verse.
I grabbed my highlighter.
And highlighted this line:
“But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, the Lord again raised up a rescuer to save them.”— Judges 3:15
Then I wrote one small thought in the margin.
Nothing fancy.
Hindi aesthetic.
Hindi pang-Instagram.
Just honest.
Parang nagsusumbong lang kay Lord.
And something interesting happened.
The verse started to feel…
alive.
Because when you journal Scripture,
you stop being a scanner.
You become a listener.
It reminded me of something deeper.
Jesus is my rescuer too.
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”— 1 Peter 2:24
When you stop scanning and start listening,
you notice words you usually skip.
You ask questions you usually ignore.
You pause.
And in a world that rewards speed…
speed reading.
speed scrolling.
speed praying.
speed everything…
Bible journaling teaches your soul to do something radical.
Slow down.
Most of us don’t struggle with access to the Bible.
Let’s be honest.
We struggle with attention.
We read fast.
Scroll fast.
Pray fast.
Move on fast.
But God rarely shouts over noise.
Most of the time…
He whispers.
And whispers require stillness.
Bible journaling isn’t about being artistic.
Hindi ito about perfect handwriting.
Or fancy markers.
Or having the “right supplies.”
It’s about creating a quiet moment where the Word of God is no longer something you consume.
It becomes something you sit with.
Reflect on.
Respond to.
Let sink deep.
Because sometimes the most powerful spiritual discipline isn’t reading more chapters.
It’s letting one verse read you back.
So if your mind feels crowded lately…
If you feel like ang dami mo nang quota sa kasalanan.
Paulit-ulit ka.
Parang Israelites.
You fall.
You cry out.
God rescues.
Then you struggle again.
Let this be a reminder.
God does rescue.
But He also calls us to turn away from sin.
Because yes, He is a loving God.
But He is also a just God.
And the beautiful thing?
He never invites us back with shame.
He invites us back with grace.
So if your prayers feel rushed lately…
If your quiet time feels like another task on your to-do list…
Try this.
One verse.
One pen.
One honest thought beside it.
No rush.
No pressure.
Just space.
Because sometimes the clearest way to hear God…
is to slow down long enough to notice
He’s been speaking to you all along. ✨
