The 2022 edition of the Spring Break Art Show (September 7-12) will mark the curator-led fair’s 11th anniversary. The event will be held at 625 Madison Avenue, back in Ralph’s Lauren’s old office, under the Barousian title. naked lunch Bibliographic, socio-political and art-historical references are encouraged through presentations from some 110 exhibitors.
“The title alludes to a work based on the body, one that seeks to reject the kind of oppression that drove Renaissance artistic production, people were escaping from the plague in the Middle Ages,” said the filmmaker. says Andrew Gori of He founded the fair with his partner, painter Ambre Kelly.
Filmmaker Sarah Driver presents a series of nearly 100 sculptures by fellow director Noah Kloster depicting Big Boy, the face of the once-ubiquitous American burger chain of the same name. It is a critique of ‘consumption’, and Mr. Gori says that ‘consumption represented by characters’ fits the theme of the exhibition.
The show also features a series of paintings by artist Colleen Barry, curated by actor Joanne Tucker. Barry’s paintings pay homage to Renaissance portraiture, with twists such as bright splashes of neon undercoat. “She pays homage to Old Her Masters and has a great technique that fits the theme very clearly,” says Gori.
The presentation, which took place in New York in March following an exhibition dedicated to Barry and her partner Will St. John, was attended by Tucker’s husband, actor Adam Driver. Tucker and Driver are also co-founders of Arts in the Armed Forces, a non-profit organization dedicated to benefiting veterans and the arts-interested community.
Before Spring Break debuted in 2012, Gori and Kelly launched their conceptual progenitor as a one-night show in 2009 at a gymnasium in Lower Manhattan. It existed in various forms in the following years before being formalized as Spring Break.
