Naqsh Floor Easel: by Amjad Bashir

Some children like to sit close to the page. Others want to stand back, look again, and return with another line or another color. Making often changes with the child, and the furniture around it should be able to change too.

I made the Naqsh Floor Easel as a flexible place for drawing and painting. The raised working panel gives the paper a proper surface, while the trays below hold brushes, colors, sketchbooks, and the next blank sheet. The carved geometric screens bring a quiet reference to Pakistani pattern-making without distracting from the child’s own work.

A child’s drawing may only be a few lines on paper, but to them it can be a whole world. Too often those pages are folded, placed in a drawer, or eventually lost beneath schoolbooks and old papers.

I made the Naqsh Deewar Display Shelf so children can see that what they create deserves a place in the home. Its flowing wooden line connects arches, circles, ledges, and small pockets for drawings, sketchbooks, and handmade objects. The work can keep changing, but the place made for it remains.

Children make more than we know how to keep. Drawings from school, painted pages, cardboard models, unfinished ideas, and the one picture they insist must never be thrown away. Slowly, these small archives begin to appear throughout the home.

I made the Naqsh Portfolio Bench as a place for those things to stay safe. The flat compartments keep artwork from being folded, the open shelves hold sketchbooks and materials, and the long top gives the piece another life as a seat or low surface.

It is storage, but also a small record of a childhood still being made.

Children rarely wait for a proper studio before they begin making things. A dining table becomes a drawing surface. The floor becomes a place for cutting and pasting. Pencils, brushes, and pages slowly travel through every room in the house.

I made the Naqsh Art Desk to give that creativity a place of its own. The broad work surface leaves room for drawing, painting, and unfinished ideas, while the built-in trays, paper slot, and lower shelf keep materials close without crowding the child.

The quiet geometric details take inspiration from the balance and careful linework found in Pakistani art.

I made the Bijli Charging Console to give that corner some dignity. A slim console that looks calm from the outside, and quietly makes space for the reality inside: backup device, wire passes, ventilation, everything in reach.
