One of the highlights of today at the Pakistan Sweet Home function in H-9 was meeting Hamza Ali Abbasi.
We skipped the usual small talk and went straight into the conversations that actually matter.
We spoke about God, faith, the purpose of life, addiction, rehabilitation, and his book My Discovery of God. It was refreshing to have an honest conversation with someone who's willing to explore life's biggest questions with sincerity and humility.
As someone working in addiction recovery, I particularly enjoyed discussing rehabilitation and how purpose and meaning can play an important role in recovery.
Thank you for the conversation, Hamza. It was a pleasure meeting you. Looking forward to reading My Discovery of God.

One habit has quietly changed the way I think.
When something goes wrong, I try not to ask, "Whose fault is this?"
I ask, "What's the next useful thing I can do?"
Blame can sometimes be necessary. Responsibility definitely is. But they're not always the same thing.
The first question keeps us looking backwards.
The second one gives us a chance to move.
It's surprising how much mental energy gets freed up when you stop trying to rewrite yesterday and start working with today.

Sometimes we think caring for someone means protecting them from every consequence.
Avoiding difficult conversations. Making excuses for them. Pretending not to see the harm.
But constantly rescuing someone can quietly teach them: you do not have to face what your choices are doing.
Accountability without compassion can become cruelty. Shame rarely creates honest change. Humiliation does not teach responsibility.
Real care can hold two truths together:
You are still worthy of dignity.
And you are responsible for what you do next.
This applies to recovery, relationships, parenting and even how we speak to ourselves.
We do not have to choose between softness and honesty.
Compassion says: You are more than your worst behaviour.
Accountability says: Your behaviour still matters.
