My latest obsession: Skies & Seascapes! 🌊☁️
Remember that comparison I posted recently? It inspired me to dive deeper into painting clouds.

I've never been fully satisfied with the clouds in my paintings before, but I feel like I’ve finally started to understand how to make them work. ✨

I know I still need to focus more on the water and waves next - sometimes they feel a bit left behind compared to the clouds - but that’s a project for another day. Right now, I’m just enjoying the flow and this creative momentum. 🩵

Which sky mood do you like most? The calm blue or the dramatic sunset? Let me know! 👇

November 2022 vs March 2026
I recently stumbled upon a reference photo I knew I had used for a painting before. I thought it would be fun to paint it again and see how differently it would turn out. Once I finished, I found my old painting from four years ago and laid them side by side.

When I painted the first version in 2022, I was quite proud of it. I had joined Learn to Paint with Confidence by in March that year and was already starting to see a big improvement in my skills. I even did a small comparison project on my Instagram, recreating some of my earlier paintings.

Now I can see that this new version - even though it’s just a quick sketchbook piece - is much stronger. The colours are more intentional (back then I think I used mostly phthalo blue for everything), the composition feels better, the clouds have more depth, and the brushstrokes are looser.

But the biggest difference?
This time, I knew what I was doing.
There was no second-guessing, no confusion - just a clear vision, solid skills, and a confident hand.

Looking at these two paintings, I can clearly see how much I’ve improved. But I can also see that the process of improving never really ends - and that’s actually the most exciting part. I can’t wait to see what the next year (or month… or even day) brings.

It’s hard to say I wish I had joined Katie's course earlier, because I signed up just days after it launched - but I can say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my art journey ❤️

Progress over perfection ✨
Here’s a peek into my sketchbook from last week. After drawing every single day for over a year, I've realized that these simple studies are where the real growth happens.

No second-guessing, just a pencil and a moment of observation. For me, drawing is not just about the final image - it’s a way to train my eyes, to truly learn how to see the underlying structure and values of everything around me.

I use these quiet pencil sessions as a technical foundation for my painting practice. On Wednesday, I'll be sharing my latest acrylic pieces, focusing on transforming these observations into bold, expressive colors! 🎨

Stay tuned to see how the pencilwork informs the brushwork.

Do you find more joy in the quiet precision of a black-and-white sketch or the vibrant energy of acrylics?

I took a few months’ break from painting, so I decided to ease back into it by creating a few small pieces in my sketchbook 🤍

⛰️The mountainscape was the first one - no planning, just having fun. I felt a bit rusty, but it was really nice to be painting again.

🌷The flower paintings are more like practice pieces. I wanted to focus on translating values into colour.

🌸With the cherry blossom, I tried to keep it looser, using fewer brushstrokes and a limited colour palette.

It turned into a really fun exercise - trying to match colours to the values I see made me look more carefully at what’s actually there and how to mix it.

I’ll definitely be doing more of these. It’s such a great practice.

It’s interesting how much you can learn just by really looking ✨

365+ drawings later… and I still can’t quite believe it 🥳

A few days ago I reached one year of my daily sketching habit. In that time I’ve filled two sketchbooks and I’m now almost halfway through my third one.

What started as a challenge slowly became one of the most natural parts of my day. I used to think drawing every day was something only “real artists” could do. Now I can’t imagine my life without it.

Over this past year the way I see things has completely changed. A flower is no longer just a flower, but a collection of shapes, lines, negative spaces and values. I draw quicker and more loosely now, trying to capture the essence rather than getting lost in every tiny detail.

Most of my drawings probably aren’t very good - but those are the most valuable ones. They show me exactly what I still need to improve.

Here are a few sketches from last week 🌸

And here’s to many more years of daily sketching, lots of “meh” drawings, some good ones, a few great ones, and many more filled sketchbooks 🍾🥂

There is something about late autumn with its grey days that makes me want to bundle up in my studio with a warm cup of tea and simply create.

Outside, the world is slowing down - trees letting go of their last leaves, the garden turning quiet, the days growing shorter.
But inside, my studio is filled with colour and softness. My current lilac-inspired collection is a whisper of spring amidst the colourless days of November - a reminder that new seasons always return.

I’m enjoying this quiet time indoors - painting slowly, savouring each moment, and letting colours bloom long before the flowers do.

What are you turning to for comfort and creativity this season?

Autumn is here in full swing - short, cold days and long, quiet evenings 🍂
I’ve been spending more time indoors, slowing down, making my home cozy for the colder months, and reconnecting with the things that light me up ✨

My favourite place lately is my studio, now filled with lilac-inspired paintings. These colours make me smile every time I walk in - a soft reminder of spring and the scent of the first flowers.
There’s something comforting about surrounding yourself with beauty while everything outside falls asleep.

What is bringing you warmth and comfort this season?

My studio is still a bit messy, but I decided to bring out a collection of paintings I started last December.

They’re inspired by lilacs, one of my favourite flowers. I just love their colours and I’m completely obsessed with their fragrance 💜
