Hidden away in a small valley at 700m above sea level, Cerdeira was a village of schist houses at risk of disappearing after agricultural acitivity was abandoned in the middle of the 20th Century. Almost 300 years old, the village was built by courageous people, farmers who lived off the land and who, even if they left in search of a better life for their families, would always come back and visit

their home. Today, Cerdeira has new stories to tell, of new inhabitants who have, will their persistence and willpower, breathed life and purpose back into this place, of men and women who have knowledgeably restored the houses and made them comfortable, as a 21st century house should be, of guests who choose the village to spend their holidays, and of artists from all over the world who come in search of inspiration.

Green Woodworking – Build Your Own Furniture🪑

Join woodworker Peter Lanyon for an immersive 8-day journey into the art of green woodworking, working with freshly cut wood from the surrounding mountains of Cerdeira.
Through hands-on making and traditional hand tools, you’ll learn how to split, shape and work green wood while exploring two different furniture-making techniques. You’ll also learn how to sharpen and care for your tools, developing skills you can continue using long after the course.
More than learning woodworking techniques, this course is an invitation to slow down, work with your hands and connect with the natural material around you. By the end, you’ll have created two unique stools, designed and made entirely by you.

No previous experience required.

New edition for 2027: Ceramics & Wood Firing – Wood Firing for the 21st Century Ceramicist 🔥

Join ceramic artist Marc Lancet for a 10-day immersive journey exploring contemporary ceramics, construction techniques and the expressive potential of wood firing. Through demonstrations, hands-on making and individual guidance, you'll develop your own artistic language while creating work to be fired in the Sasukenei smokeless kiln.

More than learning techniques, this course is an invitation to deepen your creative practice, experiment with new possibilities and discover how fire can become an essential part of your artistic process.

Some houses tell stories. Casa da Azeitona is one of them🫒

Built from local schist, following the traditions of the Serra da Lousã, Casa da Azeitona has been carefully restored, preserving the architecture and spirit of the original village.
But what truly makes this house unique is the story it holds inside.
Meet Azeitona, a whimsical textile character created by artist Vânia Kosta, from "Dedal no dedo" atelier, inspired by her black cat of the same name. Standing almost three meters tall, Azeitona brings the house to life, sparking imagination and inviting every guest to reconnect with the wonder of storytelling and childhood.
At Cerdeira, every house has its own identity. Casa da Azeitona is where heritage, creativity and memory come together, making art an integral part of the experience of staying here.
