The yarn 🧶 I used for the Palamos Bikini is microfiber acrylic! I’ve tried making swimsuits with cotton as well, but it gets heavy, stiff, and takes tooooo long to dry ☀️

If you’ve never worked with it: microfiber acrylic still has that clean summer yarn look (zero fuzziness!), but it’s super lightweight, holds its shape, and dries way faster. Plus, when it’s completely dry, it has a gorgeous silky shine that catches the sun—just like mercerized cotton! 🤓✨

Crochet or a good book?☀️I am very practical: when I am tanning in the front, I crochet, when I need to tan in my back, I read 😅

Even though I gained some weight since this video, the Palamos bikini always makes me feel comfortable at the beach, this year I just made a size bigger, and I still feel good in it! Which is another thing I love about crochet, it accompanies us through all of our body changes 🫶

On a side note: if you are a millennial, you know what I mean when I say I’ve struggled with body image, and only this year I realized I don’t really care about my size, as long as I am wearing clothes that fit me properly, I still feel good 💃 (I actually felt bad in most of the photos I took on this holiday 🤯)

About the Palamos Bikini Pattern: it’s an intermediate level crochet project, and I used a microfiber / summer acrylic yarn! Basically, it has little to no fuzz (little hairs), and I actually prefer it to cotton because when wet is not as stiff, dries faster and dries back to its original size 🤓 I think it can also be called anti-pilling acrylic yarn!?

Could I have worn a different top? Yes. But this one was fresh off the hook! 🧶✨

There’s nothing quite like turning weaving in ends into an extreme sport—what normally takes 30 minutes gets done in five...ish 🫣

(And full transparency: this wasn’t even the final outfit because those jeans were this 🤏 close to popping open 😅)

Quick tip for weaving in ends on summer tops:
If you’re working with cotton or bamboo yarn, weave your ends in three different directions (left, right, and back again) through the dense stitches like single or double crochet. This locks the tail in place so it won’t pop out after washing or stretching!

Crochet tops can sometimes feel a bit revealing, so I designed the Porto Top to allow us to dance, jump, and move around without constantly worrying about slipping out of place 💃

And after a lot of work, the pattern is officially live on Etsy! 🤗

This pattern is a made-to-measure design that uses your measurements, and I included three different bust volume options so you can get a fit that feels secure on your body shape 🧵

There’s no gauge swatching for this one, because I wanted to be able to use any yarn in my stash! And with the main stitch being a double crochet, and the constructions being quite intuitive I consider this an intermediate level project or confident beginners looking for a fun challenge ✨

Time wise: most of the testers finished their project in around 5 to 6 hours, so it is a really nice, relaxing project to take with you on holiday or work on at the end of the day ☀️

“Remote crochet work aesthetic” vs. Real-life crochet girly social anxiety 🧶🫠

I love those peaceful, aesthetic videos of creators crocheting in quiet public spaces. But trying to get pattern design work done in public when my brain is in overdrive is a challenge for me.

Instead of a flawless library session, today’s win was not running home, and instead finding a quiet corner, and getting to work.

🧶📝 if anyone is curious, I’m wearing the Azores Sweater (pattern available on Etsy and Ravelry), and I’m currently working on the Porto Crochet Top Pattern, which hopefully will be released by the end of this week 🤗

Managing a practical work day and working on your mental health may not be the perfect aesthetics, but at the end of the day it’s just about showing up and getting the stitches in (pun intended 🤓), even if you are sweating the whole time 😅
