For me, plant design is about bringing people closer to nature. 🌿

At Strand Öland, I’ve used plants to shape the terrace, create privacy and make greenery part of the guest experience. I want the planting to feel as though it grew there naturally – even though every choice has been carefully considered.

What does it take to make a destination worth the journey?

At Strand Öland, the ambition went far beyond renovating a hotel. We wanted to build on the sea, the light, the location and the history – and create more reasons to come, stay and return. All year round.

Because when design helps a destination attract more guests, more often, it becomes an investment in the business.

3D models make it possible to experience a future building with true proportions, realistic daylight, spatial flow, and atmosphere. This level of clarity helps clients understand the design as it will actually feel in real life, reducing the risk of approving something they later regret because the scale or layout was misunderstood.

By creating realistic renderings, we can also test how materials interact—how textures meet, how colors behave under different lighting conditions, and how construction details connect. This allows design decisions to be evaluated visually and technically before anything is built.

These digital visualisations then become a practical guide for the construction team. They serve as a clear framework that translates the concept into a shared visual reference on site, helping builders understand the intended design and execute it with greater accuracy.

Two very different W8 projects.

🏆🏆 Two nominations in the 2026 World Luxury Awards.

Hotel Onyxen is nominated in the World Luxury Hotel Awards, while Hagabadet Haga is nominated in the World Luxury Spa Awards.

But what do these two very different places have in common?

“For me, it’s about finding the unique identity and atmosphere of a place and making it stronger.” says Nina.

Colour, materials, furniture, lighting and details all play their part. But ultimately, it’s about creating a place with a distinct personality.

That’s when great hospitality design becomes something more – a place with an identity so strong it couldn’t be mistaken for anywhere else.

We’re delighted about both nominations and proud to have been part of creating these environments.

What is great design worth to a hotel?

More than you might think.

Great hotel design shapes how a place feels, what guests remember — and why they want to return.

“For me, it starts with understanding what the place should be, who it is for and how we want it to feel. Then that idea has to carry all the way from concept to materials, lighting, colour and details,” says Fredrik.

At its best, design becomes part of the hotel’s identity and adds value to the entire guest experience.

“…and that’s when great design becomes a great investment,” Johan concludes.

”I wanted to create a lunch restaurant that feels warm, personal and welcoming.”

Starting with a raw, empty space, I was given the freedom to shape Bistro 26 from concept to completion.

Warm colours, durable textiles and custom-built leather seating create an inviting atmosphere designed to age beautifully. An existing concrete structure was transformed into the restaurant’s bar – turning a challenge into a natural focal point.

Today, Bistro 26 welcomes around 200 lunch guests every day. Seeing the space work so well, both functionally and aesthetically, makes me very happy and proud.

“I think a lot about the small rituals of a hotel. The first coffee in the morning. Finding your favourite spot in the lobby. Sitting down in the hotel garden at the end of the day. Those are the moments we’re really designing for.”

I recently came across ’s The Restorers and the phrase “Restoration is the new status.”
It stayed with me.

New → something original, found and restored.
A weekend somewhere new → the place you return to.

In hospitality, we often talk about what a hotel should contain. I think it’s becoming more important to talk about what a place gives us.
The rituals. A sense of belonging. Returning to the same chair, the same view, the same hotel.
Materials that are allowed to age.
Things made by hand.
Spaces that don’t need to shout to be remembered.

That’s where hotels become most interesting to design – when we’re not just creating something to look at, but a place people want to return to.

”This is one of those projects that makes me genuinely happy.”

Aspenäs Spa & Retreat has become exactly the warm, peaceful and carefully considered place we wanted to create. Seeing how warmly it has been received by its guests makes me both happy and proud.

W8 has designed and furnished the new guest rooms, restaurant and spa at Aspenäs Herrgård – a historic manor surrounded by nature, only 20 minutes from Gothenburg.

The spa interior takes its cues from the landscape and Lake Aspen. Soft forms, warm natural tones and carefully chosen materials create a calm flow through the space.

The experience is shaped around three elements:

The Heat – saunas and warm spaces that soften and embrace.
The Stillness – a place for rest, silence and renewed energy.
The Water – where Lake Aspen becomes a natural part of the experience.

My role has been to lead the project throughout the entire process, including procurement and the coordination of construction and completion.

A clear vision, a great collaboration and a project delivered according to plan. Most importantly, it has become a place that guests truly enjoy.
