I actually know 10,000 more facts about Norse Mythology now, but here are some of the basics

In terms of how that relates to this family, I realize I didn’t have to go this hard for “just a painting”

But the client “Freya” told me about how much husband “Odin” likes Runes, and I really wanted to do him justice

So I took in any personal information to make this portrait as informative and unique as possible

May this portrait immortalize the family and their history for generations yet to come.

If you really want to know more about all of the concepts and designs that went into this painting, comment “ODIN” and I’ll add you to my email newsletter, where I deep dive into the symbology behind my paintings

The Vikings were different from other ancient civilizations because they didn’t leave behind monuments or scripture like the others did.

They left behind poetry and craftsmanship.

The poets who told the stories weren’t simply memorizing words and spitting them out — they were taught to think and speak in meters, stressing certain syllables at a time.

Then, based on the audience’s reaction, they could choose to elaborate on a particular battle or move on. This was all improvisation.

So the stories we know about them weren’t from written texts— it was from trained poets who recited the stories in infinite ways, yet depicted the same mythology.

I believe it’s the same for art, and I’m always honored when someone chooses me to depict their story in my way.

This summer has been dedicated to learning about history.

As a scientist and an artist, a research-based approach to art and experimentation helps me gather a more holistic understanding for why these things matter.

In turn, I’m becoming a historian too— and I’d love to share that with those who are willing to listen.

In these photos, I have chosen key artifacts from each of the following museums:

1. Cursed! Exhibit at Toledo Art Museum, Toledo, Ohio
2. U. S. Space And Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama
3. The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Illinois
4. Pompeii Exhibit at The Museum Of Science and Industry, Chicago, Illinois
5. The Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, Michigan

Do you enjoy the legendary stories behind the art too? Comment “STORYTIME” and I’ll add you to my brand new email newsletter where I can elaborate on each of these artifacts and how it ties into my art
