What first caught my eye was the chrysanthemum-shaped bowl.

Then I noticed the little cat, painted in traditional gosu blue.

Just a tiny detail, but it made me smile.😺

The chrysanthemum-shaped rim is a classic form in Japanese tableware, while the little cat is painted in traditional gosu blue — the deep indigo that has been used in Japanese ceramics for centuries.

Sometimes, just a few thoughtful details are enough.

I’ve always loved traditional Japanese lacquer bowls.

There is something about their silhouette that feels so timeless.

When I first saw the Sora Don, it immediately caught my eye. It carries the same graceful shape of a classic Goroku-wan lacquer bowl, with a gently rounded form and a raised foot that almost makes it float on the table.

What I love even more is that it brings that same feeling into everyday life. It is dishwasher safe, easy to live with, and just as happy holding donburi, noodles, soup, or a simple bowl of rice.

For those who love the beauty of Japanese lacquerware, but want something made for everyday use, I think this is a lovely choice.

Finding this was like finding a little piece of Tokoname.

Straight away, I thought of that place where so many maneki-neko are made.
The place with the giant cat…just its head and paw, quietly watching over everything.

Then I saw this one.
It‘s *that* cat, exact, but tiny!

Now, a mini-me of that giant sits by my window.

That little surprise is exactly why I love it.

If you’ve eaten at a Japanese teishoku restaurant, you’ve probably seen this little grinder sitting on the table.

The Slickey-N has been a familiar part of Japanese dining for decades. Simple, compact, and designed to grind sesame just before you eat.

Freshly ground sesame has a completely different aroma. Just a few turns over rice, noodles, tofu or salad, and you can immediately taste the difference.

Perhaps that’s why this little grinder has hardly changed over the years.

When something is thoughtfully designed from the beginning, there isn’t much to improve.
