My name is Jenney; I work as a product designer during the day and in my spare time, I produce small batches of handmade ceramics. I'm originally from Vancouver, Canada, but for now, Stockholm, Sweden is my home 🧡 – along with my partner Oliver and our baby Shiba Inu, Lando đŸ¶. I started working with ceramics after searching for a creative outlet to unwind from my day job. I immediately fell in love with pottery: it allows me to create something tangible and physical, and within the clay, there are endless possibilities. It also teaches me patience and resilience, as more often than not, my pieces don't make it to the end. I’m still very much a beginner and have a long way to go, but each time I sit down at the wheel or make something hand-built at the studio, I learn something new!

After a few weeks of trotting around in Japan, I'm back in town and gearing up for the next market. I'll be at Hobo Hotel Stockholm this Sunday, 27 September along with a few other talented artists đŸ„°.

And you'll get to see these pretty ramen bowls up for sale. Unbelievably, I didn't have any ramen when I was in Japan. There were just too many other food options and the weather was too hot for a steamy hot bowl of soup 😅.

But luckily as Stockholm temperature trends down, I'm looking forward to visiting some of my fav ramen spots here đŸ„°

I'm scaling down my market appearances these days so this will be the only fall market I'll do. So hope to see you there!

Onta pottery village.

300 years of tradition, upheld by 9 families. Everything is done, according to the same method since 1705, with no modern day machines.

All the wares are made with a kick-wheel, and with the techniques handed down across generations, father to son (not women sadly).

The colours all come from nature, with greens, browns, creams and black.

And the clay is sourced from surrounding mountains, and processed with wooden water mills.

Feeling so privileged to have been able to check this special place! Turn on sound for the last video to hear the water mills, there are many of these thumping away throughout the village, rhythmic and therapeutic.

As summer slowly winds down, I'm starting preparing for my vacation andddd simultaneously kicking off planning for Christmas 😅. Classic..

I'm not sure how much time I'll dedicate to markets this winter. I'll be away from the studio most of September (đŸ‡ŻđŸ‡”đŸ˜), and when I'm back I also want to spend some more time specifically focusing on developing my own glazes.

On top of this, things have been quite busy with my job at Voi and I'm expecting a cray cray October/November. But let's see! I do have a few threads market wise:

I'll be at Hobo Hotel Stockholm end of September, and then a new/fun/exciting endeavor with treehousehunddagis in Örebro! Stay tuned for more details đŸ€­

The first batch of my glaze test adventure is out đŸ”„! There were so many possibilities that I had a really hard time limiting myself. And even still felt I had too many variants to juggle 😅.

But out of this I have a few favourites to continue on. I think none of these I'm 100% happy with yet but they look promising. Perhaps adjusting the colour oxides by a tiny bit will do the trick.

I spent the last week at this magical place on Öland, learning about glaze theory. A whole week of learning, being surrounded by nature, flowers, likeminded people.

I am very much looking forward to start developing my own glazes. I already have some cool ideas to test! Ingredients to buy, test tiles to make đŸ€“

Also..crazy but already can't wait for next summer! I plan to go back and take up one of the other fun classes they run đŸ€—.

It's a busy summer so far in and out of the studio â˜€ïžđŸŒˆ. But between working at the studio and my normal day job, we still managed to make the most of summer, so don't feel too much vacation fomo, yet hehe.

Been stocking up on old and new things, in preparation for the fall and Christmas. For once, I'd like to think I'll be ahead of the game and will manage to avoid the November mad dash..let's see 😅.

Next week I will head to Öland for a very special reason, so stay tuned đŸ€“đŸ˜Ž
