How do you translate 400 years of history into a contemporary design?
For its 400th anniversary in 2026, Riddarhuset, Sweden’s House of Nobility, approached Bernadotte & Kylberg to design a new commemorative tableware collection.
The challenge was to create a contemporary expression for an institution with four centuries of history, while remaining relevant to what Riddarhuset represents today.
The starting point was found within Riddarhuset itself.
The Latin phrase Merere Calcaribus Tuis , “earn your spurs”, led to the spur, a historic symbol of merit and recognition with a direct connection to the traditions of Riddarhuset.
Bernadotte & Kylberg transformed the spur into a graphic pattern in which each element is interconnected, reflecting Riddarhuset itself, where individual families and generations together form a greater whole.
