One palette, from the living room to the dining area.

Warm neutrals, wood tones and softly lit cabinetry connect this Canberra Road 350B resale home. The display wall gives the owners’ collection a place in the room, while the dining area sits comfortably beside the living space.

Sunlight, soft greys, and a layout built for growing families β˜€οΈ

This freshly-handed-over BTO in Canberra was all about keeping things calm and functional without losing warmth. The living room centres on a grey-veined stone feature wall with a slim floating console β€” enough surface for the TV setup, not enough clutter to make the room feel busy. Sheer curtains keep the space bright through the day.

In the kitchen, warm timber cabinetry wraps around a dark stone island that pulls double duty as prep counter and breakfast bar, with an open display shelf for the little things that make a kitchen feel lived-in. The bedroom wardrobe runs floor-to-ceiling in soft cream laminate with sculpted wood pull handles β€” no protruding k***s to catch a shoulder in a compact room. Even the bathroom vanity picks up the same warm wood tone to tie the palette together.

BTO or resale? Start with the condition of the home.

Flat size is only one part of a renovation budget. Before choosing finishes, ask:

β€’ What can be retained?
β€’ What needs removal or replacement?
β€’ How much carpentry do you need?
β€’ What electrical and plumbing work is involved?

Start with a planning range, then refine the scope around your floor plan and site condition.

This is a BTO flat at 104A Bidadari Park Drive.

Modern contemporary β€” a calm open living room, dark timber shelving through the dining area, and a glass-front display cabinet that does the job of a feature wall.

The kitchen is deliberately dark. It hides everyday mess in a way a white kitchen never will, and it still reads as expensive.

Quiet, warm, and completely unfussy β€” this is Dakota Breeze 🌾

Walk down the hallway of this BTO and everything lines up in easy, natural oak tones β€” the TV console, the kitchen cabinetry, and the round dining table all speak the same quiet language, framed by a sleek black-framed sliding door that separates the kitchen without closing it off completely. The living room keeps it simple with a soft grey sofa, a round glass coffee table, and sheer curtains that let the daylight in unfiltered. The kitchen itself is compact but considered, with full-height wood cabinetry, a built-in oven, and a clean white countertop that keeps the palette light. In the bathroom, a round mirror and matching wood vanity continue the same warm materiality, while the bedroom closes things out with a soft grey headboard and a built-in wood nightstand nook. Nothing here shouts β€” it's a home built on consistency instead of statement pieces.

This is a Japandi BTO at 639A Tampines Street 62.

Pale wood, soft terracotta and arches β€” arched glass doors between the living room and kitchen, an arched window wall behind the TV, and a round dining table that keeps the walkway clear.

Japandi is not just beige. It is warm wood doing the work that paint usually does.

πŸ’‘ Renovation Tip: Lighting layers β€” the difference between flat and cosy

A single ceiling light in the middle of the room is the number one reason homes feel flat and clinical instead of warm and lived-in. The fix is layering: combine ambient lighting (your main ceiling downlights or spotlights), task lighting (under-cabinet strips in the kitchen, reading lights by the bed), and accent lighting (LED strips beneath a TV console, wall washers on a feature wall) so no single source is doing all the work. Colour temperature matters just as much as placement β€” warmer light around 2700K to 3000K reads as cosy and residential, while anything closer to 5000K and above starts to feel more like an office or a clinic. Where you can, wire in dimmers for your main ambient circuit so the mood can shift between daytime brightness and evening warmth. And don't forget vertical light β€” wall-mounted or shelf-integrated fixtures do more to make a room feel dimensional than another downlight ever will.

A bedroom with room for everyday life.

A platform bed, a surface for work and a quiet corner for a guitar come together in this Canberra Road 350B bedroom. Warm wood tones and a simple palette keep the space calm.

Before planning built-ins, list what the room needs to hold β€” and leave room to move between those daily routines.
