[Part 2 of 3 of fertilisers]
Dispelling the myth of inorganic fertilisers
Often, when people hear about inorganic fertilisers, they will think about chemicals and how chemicals are bad especially if you are trying to grow edibles.
Chemical pesticides are indeed bad, as they affect the ecosystem. However, chemical fertilisers seek to provide the plants with nutrients. The elements that occur in nature in organic fertilisers are synthetically created in the laboratory for chemical fertilisers, and plants will take in both types of nutrients.
Chemical fertilisers are great as they release nutrients quickly, which gives the boost that mature plants need. These fertilisers are generally stronger, and therefore not recommended for seedlings.
Do follow the instructions given as it is easy to overdose your plant due to the strong nature of chemical fertilisers, which may also cause fertiliser burns if it touches the plant directly (just like acid touching skin). Use fertiliser baskets where appropriate, to reduce the risk of such contact with the plant.
