Ever noticed that rooms feel calmer when everything in them doesn’t compete equally for attention?

A darker artwork.
A hammered metal tray catching the afternoon light.
A single sculptural form sitting quietly in the background.

The eye needs places to rest as much as places to land.

The final layer is editing. It can be oh so hard to hold back, but that’s where the room comes together.

Most people think they need to have everything figured out before speaking to a designer.

Usually, they just know something about the house isn’t working anymore.

The first conversation is really about getting clarity. How you live, what feels frustrating, what’s changed, and what you want the home to support moving forward.

You don’t need a full plan before reaching out. That’s part of what we help with.

If a project has been sitting in the back of your mind for a while, this is probably your sign to start the conversation.

Good rooms don’t happen by accident.

The rug needs to be big enough to hold the room together. Tiny rugs can go jump.

Pendant lighting changes the feeling of a dining space completely. During the day it brings the room down to a more human scale. At night, it brings the atmosphere.

Texture matters too. Linen, wool, timber, stone, metal. A room should feel layered, not flat.

And then there’s restraint. Every piece doesn’t need to fight for attention. The strongest rooms know when to let something lead.

Also, tiny apologetic cushions. We’re not doing those either.

A lot of the project is decided long before anything is ordered.

This is where the behind-the-scenes work really happens. We’re organising selections, coordinating decisions, and keeping the entire project on track as it develops.

The inspiration pinboard becomes the reference point for every decision moving forward. We catalogue our clients’ likes and dislikes early, then proportion, materials, colour, mood, and visual weight all get checked against that original direction so the project still feels cohesive by the end.

We use tools like Programa to manage all of these moving parts clearly and efficiently, helping keep projects on track from concept through to completion.

A styling moment from Project Cameo.

Open shelving sounds simple until you actually have to style it. Most people overfill shelves very quickly.

Books create height and grounding. Objects repeat shape and tone without feeling too matched. Negative space gives the eye somewhere to rest.

A room starts to feel calmer when every surface isn’t asking for attention all at once.

Quality shows up in the things you use every day.

The weight of a handle.
How a tap feels when you turn it.
How well something holds up after a year of use.

These aren’t the most visible decisions,
but they’re the ones you notice daily.

Not everything needs to be elevated.
But the pieces you live with should be considered properly.

That’s what lasts.

Most homes already have something good to work with.

A few pieces that are right, a layout that has potential. And good intentions behind the decisions that have been made over time.

But rooms become cluttered visually when everything carries the same weight. Nothing is edited properly, proportions drift off, and the overall direction becomes murky.

That’s usually where I begin.

Looking at what’s working, what’s holding the room back, and what will create the biggest shift without overcomplicating things.

Some pieces stay. Some pieces shouldn’t.

The goal isn’t to endlessly add more. It’s to create a home that feels more considered, more cohesive, and better aligned with the way you actually live.

A room doesn’t need to be filled to feel complete.

In fact, some of the strongest spaces are the ones that know when to stop.

This room is relatively restrained, but not empty. The palette stays soft, the forms are simple, and each piece has enough presence to anchor the space without overcrowding it.

There’s also restraint in what hasn’t been added.

No extra furniture for the sake of filling a corner. No layers competing for attention. Just a clearer sense of what belongs in the room, and what doesn’t.

A lot of interiors feel unsettled because everything is asking to be seen at once. Good editing changes that.

Most clients don’t come to me needing a complete overhaul.

More often, they already have a home with good foundations, pieces they love, and rooms that are functioning reasonably well. But something still feels unresolved.

The layout may not be flowing properly. The proportions feel off. Decisions have been made one by one, without a clear framework tying everything together.

That’s what the Design Review is for.

An experienced eye to identify what’s working, what isn’t, and where a few considered changes will create the biggest impact.

Sometimes the shift is larger than expected. Sometimes it’s surprisingly simple. But clarity changes everything.
