Welcoming some beautiful pieces by renowned artist Jang Hun Seong.

Based in Icheon, a city long recognised for its ceramic heritage, he works at the intersection of Korean and Japanese pottery traditions, continually exploring a distinctly Korean expression in contemporary ceramics.

One of the defining characteristic of his practice is the use of Hoeryong glaze, developed from rice straw ash that he personally collects and processes. It is applied as a second layer over glazed surfaces, flowing naturally during firing to create his signature soft marbling effect. His works are also featured and used in Michelin-level dining environments, such as Eatanic Garden by Chef Son Jong Won.

Usukiyaki traces its origins to a pottery tradition that began over 200 years ago in Usuki during the late Edo period. Once created as official kiln ware for the Usuki domain, the tradition eventually disappeared and became known as a “phantom pottery” lost to time.

In 2015, a revival was led by Hiroyuki Usami and the Usukiyaki Research Institute, together with a team of craftsmen and collaborators who studied surviving fragments and historical records to bring the tradition back into contemporary life. Rather than recreating the past exactly, they sought to reinterpret its spirit for today, allowing the craft to evolve while remaining rooted in history.

Today, Usukiyaki's work is closely connected to the landscape of Usuki itself, where lotus ponds and the surrounding natural environment quietly inform its visual language.

Carte Blanche by Annebet Philips

In her Amsterdam atelier, Annebet works in a space defined by light and calm. But when she begins, that stillness shifts into a landscape of sketches, cardboard forms and prototypes, spread across the floor and pinned to the walls.

It is here that Carte Blanche, her ceramic tableware collection for Serax, takes shape. What starts as simple cardboard cut-outs evolves into refined objects that preserve every crease and imperfection.

As Shaped by Nature comes to a close, we reflect on the quiet conversations it has held: between Japan and Singapore, between two artists, and between material and nature.

Huge thanks to Japan Creative Center for the serene space, to Asami-san who flew over from Japan to attend the event, to Huey Min for coming up with a functional ware collection just for us, and to Lilian for the beautiful installation.

Thank you to everyone who visited, supported, and shared this moment with us. It was a joy meeting and chatting with you.

Porcelain that holds the memory of nature is now deepened with a bronze glaze that lends each piece an earthy resonance.

In her bronze collection, Maeda Asami's signature botanical motifs are translated into something more grounded, almost timeworn in feeling. The bronze tones settle into the forms like patina, as if shaped by both nature and time.
