Perfection is built on Imperfections.

In interior design, nothing ever begins perfect.
A space almost always comes with its quirks - wasted corners, odd structural columns jutting out, or kitchens that feel far too small for daily life.

At first, these imperfections look like obstacles. But for us, they are the starting point. Because it is precisely in working with what isn’t right that we can create what feels just right. A cramped kitchen can be reimagined into a functional heart of the home. Awkward corners can be integrated into useful storage. Wasted spaces can be transformed into areas that bring true value.

Even the materials we use carry imperfections.
Tiles, for example, are rarely perfectly flat. Lay them side by side, and you’ll often find slight unevenness. Left unchecked, this creates lippage - edges that break the flow of the floor. That’s why we use leveling clips and wedges. They may look messy in the moment, but they help achieve a surface that is seamless, smooth, and lasting.

So imperfection is not the enemy of design. It is the canvas. It is what pushes us to think harder, plan smarter, and refine every detail.

And in the end, imperfection isn’t what holds us back.
It’s what makes perfection possible.

An old name card, a lasting lesson

While tidying up, I found my old name card, designed to look like a credit card. At that time, it was a playful idea. But looking back, it carried a deeper meaning.

In our trade, credit is everything.

- Credit that clients give when they place a deposit.
- Credit in the trust that timelines will be honoured.
- Credit in the assurance that quality will be delivered.

Just like a credit card, credibility is invisible until tested. Every successful project is like a bill paid on time, your “credit score” improves. Break that trust, and it’s like defaulting on a payment: the damage takes years to repair.

So yes, it looked like a credit card. But really, it was a reminder that in this business, the true currency is credit earned, not credit spent.

Project New Futura |

Located in Singapore’s prestigious New Futura condominium, this residence first came to us with persistent ducted air-conditioning issues from a renovation three years prior by another company. What began potentially as a simple repair soon evolved into a full-scale renovation, driven by the client’s vision for a luxurious and distinctive home.

From November 2023 to May 2025, we crafted an interior that balances bold textures, layered detailing, and unexpected colour combinations, moving beyond minimalism to create a deeply personal and opulent space.

A unifying design feature is the curved fluted paneling, expressed through varied materials: warm timber in the living room, sculpted marble in the powder room, and soft fabric in the bedrooms. This variation maintains design continuity while reflecting each room’s character.

Several walls throughout the home are intentionally reserved for the client’s art collection, adding a unique, curated dimension, though these are not shown in the video.

A standout is the seamless staircase feature wall, rising floor to ceiling without visible joints, contrasting dramatically with the high-gloss ebony panels lining the corridors. This interplay enhances the dynamic between light and shadow, openness and intimacy.

The result is a bespoke residence that combines architectural precision, artisanal craftsmanship, and fearless use of colour and materials, celebrating individuality with timeless elegance and comfort.

Rediscovering Our Identity

As MDS Interiors moves through a rebranding process, updating our website, refining our visuals, and rearticulating our values, I took a moment to appreciate the thought behind our logo.

Minimal yet meaningful, it is composed of seven concentric circles that subtly form the initials m, d, and s, which represent the initials of our founders. The intersecting rings symbolise the harmonious synergy born from this collaboration.

This rebranding journey isn’t about becoming something new. It is about expressing who we have always been, with greater intention and sharper focus.

We are excited to unveil what is ahead.

13 Years | MDS Interiors

Yesterday marked 13 years since we started MDS Interiors.

Today, the three of us sat down for a simple lunch. No fanfare, no speeches. Just a rare moment to pause, eat, and be present with one another.

In the early days, we didn’t have a vision statement or a unique business model.
We didn’t map out a five-year strategy.
We just knew we wanted to work together, do something we enjoyed, and hopefully make a living from it.

If there was a mission, it was survival.
To keep going, to figure things out as we moved.
That open mindset became our biggest strength.

We never had a showroom. Never poured money into a flashy office. We kept our costs lean because we had to, and that decision carried us through COVID.

We’ve learned that business isn’t about having the most unique product or the most impressive plan.

An MBA doesn’t guarantee business success.
What matters is ex*****on and the willingness to adapt. Knowing when to change direction and having the humility to admit when you need to.

Today, we completed an office renovation for a Chinese listed company. It is a proud moment, not just for the project itself, but for the journey that brought us here.

And as we sat over lunch, we were reminded of something simple. In the rush of meetings, site visits, and deadlines, these quiet, shared moments are a luxury.

It is not about where we eat.
It is the fact that we are still here, still together, 13 years on.

We never set out to build something grand.
We simply started. But in staying light, staying open, we found ourselves building some of the grandest spaces.

Perhaps the real strength isn’t in having a perfect plan, but in shaping it as we go….steadily toward perfection.

Just handed over one of our most challenging projects to date.

Not just because of the scale, but because the client is one of Taiwan’s richest, and a property developer himself. The expectations were high, and the pressure was real.

At this level, design success is never just about good aesthetics. It’s about details, details, and more details. Because, as always, the killer is in the details.

Take the fluted motif. It flows throughout the home, appearing in different forms and materials: sometimes straight, sometimes curved; sometimes in wood, sometimes in stone or fabric. It’s a visual thread that creates continuity without repetition, what I call 遥相呼应 - a deliberate echo of design across spaces.

We also choreographed the user’s movement through the space. What you see first when you enter, how the space greets you, and the feeling it leaves behind. Every moment is intentional. In the kitchen, symmetry and muted tones bring calm to a naturally busy space. Elsewhere, bold elements are balanced with restraint, creating harmony between contrast and cohesion.

One of my favourite details is a seemingly simple curved wall flowing seamlessly into the ceiling. Simple, continuous, and subtly dramatic, it extends the visual depth and offers a quiet, sophisticated surprise.

Even the leather-wrapped handrails were meticulously detailed, joined with custom metallic spacers for a finish that’s clean, refined, and resolved.

Because true luxury doesn’t need to be loud. It’s found in intention, precision, and the poetry of detail.
