Natural light enters from both ends of the home, meeting here in the dining space.

From the living room, daylight washes into the raised dining area, while light from beyond the kitchen draws the eye further through the house. Sitting between the two, the dining room feels bright and open, yet still holds its own place within the home.

That sense of openness continues in the way the spaces unfold. Living flows into dining, dining into kitchen, with long sightlines allowing light, movement and conversation to travel easily between them.

Each space has its own purpose, but together they form one continuous rhythm for everyday family life.

The dining table moves with the rhythm of the home.

In the afternoon, it might be where homework is spread out and the day’s work gets done. As daylight softens, books make way for plates, dinner is brought to the table, and the family begins to gather.

The setting changes, the light changes, but the table remains at the centre of it all.

A place for the ordinary moments that, over time, become part of a home’s story.

A small change in level helps define the way these spaces relate.

The raised dining area gives it its own sense of place without closing it away from the living room. The wide opening keeps the spaces visually connected, while also allowing natural light from the living area to wash into the dining space, drawing daylight deeper into the home.

From here, the home continues naturally towards the kitchen beyond, creating a clear visual flow through the shared spaces.

That connection is carried through in the materials too. Concrete forms a quiet backdrop, while timber brings warmth through the furniture and joinery. Stone, wood and concrete each have their own character, yet sit comfortably alongside one another.

The result is a home where each space feels distinct, but nothing feels disconnected.

The dining area was designed as more than a place for meals. It is where the family comes together, slows down and shares the everyday moments in between.

The homeowners wanted the space to feel warm, natural and quietly refined. Timber brings warmth against the cool concrete finish, while the simple forms and restrained palette keep the room calm and uncluttered.

Set slightly above the living room, the dining area remains connected without becoming one continuous open space. A subtle change in level gives it its own identity, while still allowing conversation, light and movement to flow between the two.

The homeowners wanted the living room to feel raw, natural and understated, with materials that could speak for themselves rather than relying on decorative finishes.

The concrete finish was a deliberate choice, bringing texture and a quiet industrial character to the space. The structural pillar was treated in the same restrained palette, allowing it to sit naturally within the room rather than trying to disguise it.

Against the cool grey, warm timber furniture softens the space, creating the balance the homeowners were after: minimal but not stark, raw but still warm, and above all, a home meant to be lived in.

Not every structural constraint needs to be hidden.

What began as an awkward pillar was rethought as part of the architecture, becoming a minimalist frame between the entrance and the living space.

Rather than closing the two areas off, it creates a subtle pause between them, giving each space its own identity while keeping the home visually connected.

A constraint turned into part of the composition.

Some of the biggest changes in a space are the ones that almost disappear.

Here, the original enclosure was replaced with full-height black-framed sliding glass doors, allowing natural light to travel deeper into the living room while maintaining a connection to the outdoors.

The glass still defines where inside ends and outside begins, but without the visual weight of a solid boundary. Light passes through, reflections move across the marble, and the garden becomes part of the view from within.

It is a simple intervention, but one that changes how the whole room feels.

Because sometimes, opening up a home is not about creating more space.
It is about allowing what is already there to flow through it.

A home carries time in layers.

Some are worth keeping. Others have to be stripped away to make room for what comes next.

For this 30-year-old home, we went back to its bones. Walls came down, ceilings opened up, and years of additions were peeled away. Yet the original marble remained, a quiet thread between what the home had been and what it was becoming.

Around it, we shaped a living space with more light, openness and natural materials. Not to erase the past, but to let the home grow beyond it.

Because renovation isn’t always about starting over.

Sometimes, it is about knowing what to keep, what to let go, and what to make room for.

A space for the family to return to, again and again.

It’s been a while, and we’re returning to this space with a story close to what we love about design.

A 30-year-old home, reimagined for a growing family through light, space and natural materials.

At the heart of this transformation is a family of six and a shared love for materials in their most natural form. Timber, marble, stone and cement textures bring warmth and tactility throughout the home, while natural light draws the spaces together.

Much of the original house was reworked to make room for the way the family lives today, creating more bedrooms, more functional spaces and a greater sense of openness within the existing structure.
Through all that change, the home remains grounded in what matters: family, nature and a sense of belonging.

A home with history, given room to grow.
