WAZIYA THEATER, YANGON
We are proud to share that ISH Design (Thailand) has been entrusted with the restoration and interior redesign of the historic Waziya Theater in Yangon, Myanmar.
Originally built more than 100 years ago, Waziya Theater has witnessed generations of cultural and social history. After decades of continuous use, the building had significantly deteriorated. Today, the owner is transforming it into a modern cinema equipped with state-of-the-art technology, while remaining deeply committed to preserving its architectural heritage.
The project’s key objective is to conserve the theater’s original exterior and retain its historic architectural details. Before beginning the design process, our team conducted extensive research into the building’s history to ensure that every intervention respects its cultural significance.
As the original interior had been completely lost over time, we developed an entirely new interior concept. The main auditorium has been reimagined as a contemporary cinema featuring the latest audiovisual technology, while creating a modern and immersive architectural experience that complements the building’s historic legacy.
We believe that great architecture honors the past while embracing the future.
