Lighting is more than just brightness—it is about choosing the right measure of light for the right purpose. Understanding Lumen vs Lux helps you make informed decisions for every space in your home or office.

𝙇𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙣 (𝙡𝙢) refers to the total amount of visible light a source emits. It tells you how much light a fixture produces overall, making it ideal for evaluating general or ambient lighting needs.

𝙇𝙪𝙭 (𝙡𝙭) measures how much of that light actually reaches a specific surface. It considers distance and beam angle, which is why task lighting (like reading lamps) requires higher lux levels to ensure focus and clarity.

When selecting your next light, think about where and how the light will be used. For precise work areas, prioritise lux. For overall room brightness, lumen matters more.

Perfect for focused spot lighting or highlighting key features, the Gu10 comes in different beam angle options so you can choose the exact spread of light your space needs.

💡 Whether you want to draw attention to a piece of art, create a warm reading space or brighten up your countertop — the right Gu10 beam angle makes all the difference.

When it comes to lighting, beam angle is a key factor that determines how light is distributed in a space. From narrow (15°) for display (accent) lighting, medium (36°) for focused tasks, to wide (60°) for general lighting—this guide provides a clear and simplified explanation to aid your selection process.

However, it is important to note that beam angle is just one of many considerations. Ceiling height, fixture positioning and the intended use of the space also play significant roles in achieving optimal lighting performance.

Many people associate "brightness" with "watt", but that is not quite right!

💡 Power (Watt) tells you how much electricity a light bulb uses. Lower watt often means lower energy bills!

💡 Lumen (lm) is the true measure of a bulb's brightness – it is the amount of visible light it emits.

So, when buying bulbs, look for lumen for brightness and watt for energy efficiency. Choose wisely to get the light you need with the energy savings you want!

🔍 Why does the same object appear so different under different lights?

What you are seeing here, is not magic—it is the Colour Rendering Index (CRI) at work. CRI measures how accurately a light source reveals the true colours of objects, compared to natural daylight.

🍎 A low CRI can make fresh fruits look dull, books lose their warmth, and artwork appear flat or unnatural.

At LINIQ, we offer lighting solutions with high CRI ratings (90 and above) to ensure colours appear vibrant, accurate and true-to-life—perfect for homes, galleries or retail spaces.

💡Because lighting is not just about brightness—it is about seeing things as they truly are.
