Leather is a popular sofa upholstery option due to its durability, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. But, several leather types exist, each with unique characteristics.
๐๏ธ Full-grain leather: Full-grain leather is the strongest and most durable sofa leather. It's the most natural-looking option since it retains the animal's markings. It's also breathable, comfortable to sit on, and doesn't get hot or sticky.
๐๏ธ Top-grain leather: Top-grain leather is a good sofa option made from the second layer of the animal's hide. It's sanded to remove imperfections, but not as durable as full-grain leather. It has a more uniform appearance and is more affordable.
๐๏ธ Split-grain leather: Split-grain leather is less durable than full-grain and top-grain leather. It's often used for sofa back and sides since it's not as strong but still looks good.
๐๏ธ Bonded leather: Made from glued leather scraps and coated with polyurethane, bonded leather is the least expensive sofa leather type. However, it's not as durable as full-grain or top-grain leather and lacks a natural look, sometimes feeling artificial.
