Can one home be designed for working, entertaining, family life and quiet retreat?

At The Tate Residences, flexibility became an important part of our design approach.

Because the homeowners divide their time between Singapore and Europe, their Singapore home needed to transition easily between different ways of living.

A few principles we incorporated throughout the project:
• Create multifunctional rooms - the study transforms into a guest bedroom when required.
• Plan for entertaining - additional seating and an open connection towards the balcony allow gatherings to extend naturally.
• Introduce visual zoning - doors, dividers and cabinetry provide privacy without making spaces feel enclosed.
• Design storage around real routines - work equipment, gaming setups and everyday belongings can be concealed when they are not being used.
• Maintain one consistent design language - recurring mouldings, colours and detailing connect rooms with very different functions.

Good spatial planning is not about fitting more into a home.

It is about allowing one space to serve different moments beautifully.

The master bedroom required more than a beautiful restful space; it also needed to incorporate a workspace, gaming station, walk-in wardrobe and a more comfortable connection to the ensuite bathroom.

We reconfigured the original wardrobe arrangement and repositioned the walk-in wardrobe towards the left, allowing us to create a concealed entrance to the master bathroom.

The original bathroom door swing made the bathroom space feel tighter, so repositioning the door helped create a more seamless and spacious bathroom.

A divider was also introduced beside the workspace and gaming area, providing a visual backdrop so the user is not seated with their back directly facing the bedroom entrance.

Behind the cabinetry, the gaming setup can be neatly concealed when not in use.

By carefully integrating each function into the overall layout, the master bedroom remains a comfortable retreat while supporting the homeowners’ everyday routines.

A walkway does not have to be treated simply as a passage from one room to another.

Here, the wall mouldings from the main living spaces continue along the corridor and into the private areas of the home, creating a consistent architectural language throughout the apartment.

The repeated detailing gives an otherwise narrow transitional space rhythm and character, while the deep blue runner draws the eye towards the rooms beyond.

Carefully placed artwork and warm lighting complete the composition, turning an everyday transition space into another considered part of the home.

Sometimes, continuity in design is found in the spaces in between.

Classical ceiling cornices and wall mouldings establish the architectural character of the living room, creating a quiet backdrop for the homeowners’ furniture, artwork and decorative pieces to take centre stage.

Rather than introducing a bulky television console, we designed an intentionally shallow TV console that provides functionality without compromising the circulation of the space.

The predominantly light walls and ceiling act almost like a blank canvas, allowing the rich blue rug, sculptural furniture, artwork and lighting to become the visual focal points of the room.

Designed for both unwinding after a long day and welcoming friends over, the seating arrangement accommodates larger gatherings while naturally extending towards the balcony and its surrounding views.

A living room that feels composed, but never overly formal.

A home can be elegant and expressive, yet practical. Formal enough for entertaining, yet comfortable enough for everyday life.

At The Tate Residences, every space was designed around how the family actually lives, from working at home and hosting friends to creating private spaces for retreat.

Because thoughtful design is not simply about how a home looks.

It is about how naturally it supports the life happening within it.

The dining area was designed as a vibrant yet refined centrepiece of the home, a space that reflects the homeowners’ appreciation for colour while staying connected to the overall design language.

A deep blue backdrop introduces richness and personality, while its subtle wavy texture brings a sense of movement and visual depth. The mirror helps to amplify light and openness, creating a brighter and more expansive feel around the dining setting.

Curved furniture forms and sculptural lighting add softness and character, beautifully complementing the classical wall mouldings and creating a layered balance between elegance and contemporary expression.

Together, these elements create a dining space that feels distinctive, welcoming and full of personality, equally suited for quiet family moments and joyful gatherings with guests.

The Tate Residences

Designed for a European couple who divide their time between Singapore and Europe, this home was envisioned as a refined yet comfortable base for the family whenever they are in Singapore.

With a teenage daughter and a live-in helper, the home needed to accommodate everyday family life, working from home and entertaining guests, while still reflecting the homeowners’ appreciation for design and the sense of space they were accustomed to in Europe.

We introduced a modern Victorian-inspired language through detailed ceiling cornices, wall mouldings and carefully considered architectural elements, balanced with contemporary furniture and expressive splashes of colour throughout the home.

The study is one of the most versatile spaces in the apartment. Designed to double as a guest room, it accommodates two movable work desks for the couple to work side by side comfortably. When guests stay over, the desks can be stored within the full-height cabinetry, and the concealed fold-down bed can be opened, transforming the room from a home office into a welcoming bedroom.

Even the printer is tucked neatly within the cabinetry, allowing the workspace to disappear when it is no longer needed.

A room designed not for just one purpose, but around the different ways a home is lived in.

The Botany Project was designed around this balance.

A calming home with space to rest, work, gather and store the things that form part of the homeowners’ everyday lives, without allowing functionality to overwhelm the sense of openness.

Because thoughtful design is not only about how a home looks, but also how naturally it supports the people living within it.

To increase storage while keeping the foyer visually spacious, we proposed a continuous stretch of half-height cabinets instead of full-height built-ins.

An altar area was thoughtfully incorporated into the cabinetry, framed by a gently curved back panel that softens the overall composition.

A half-height divider and raised platform create a subtle sense of distinction, while the difference in countertop levels gives the altar its own defined and respectful presence.

The result is a practical storage solution that feels light, balanced and seamlessly integrated into the home.

The homeowners wanted their walk-in wardrobe to include both a dresser and a dedicated display for their crystal collection.

An illuminated display cabinet was incorporated at the entrance of the wardrobe, turning their collectibles into a meaningful feature while making full use of an otherwise overlooked corner.

At the dresser, wiring for items such as the hair dryer was carefully concealed within the cabinetry to keep the space neat and functional.

Upward lighting was also integrated above the cabinets to create the effect of soft cove lighting without constructing a false ceiling.

Practical details, quietly concealed within a refined and personal space.
