[Throwback]
The part of Insecta Iridesse that feels especially resolved in hindsight, is the way the publication gave the entire project somewhere to live.
The explorer’s field journal formed the core of Foxejurix, replacing a conventional technical catalogue with maps, currency, weather studies, newspaper clippings, expedition notes and documentary drawings. Each artefact contributed to the fictional expedition while demonstrating a different ink, paper stock, finish or print combination.
The paper jewellery belonged to this record before it appeared in the physical show. Carnelian, Emeraude and Amethystos were first documented as rare species within the publication, then realised as specimens displayed within habitats connected to their respective presses.
Carnelian appeared among gradated leaves produced by the PrimeLink C9065/C9070. Emeraude inhabited stones moving from 30 to 100 per cent black, created using the monochrome B9 Series Production Press. Amethystos occupied webs printed in gold, silver and white speciality inks by the Iridesse Production Press.
The show gave physical scale and presence to the world already established on the page. Visitors could encounter the species, examine their surfaces and connect the specimens back to the expedition records and technical samples within the journal.
Looking back, the strength of the project lies in that relationship. The publication carried the story, information and print proof, while the show made its contents feel momentarily real. Together, they allowed a product catalogue to become something people could read, investigate and remember.
