25 South Mumbai is a three-storey penthouse residence shaped through an eight-year creative journey with Ensemble Studio, evolving into a contemporary sanctuary for four family units spanning three generations.
From its earliest conception through its evolution into a highly personalised family home, Ensemble Studio played a defining role in shaping the residence’s architectural character, spatial choreography, material language, and experiential identity.
Drawing inspiration from the layered compositions of Mughal miniature paintings, the home is conceived as a contemporary scenograph—a sequence of interconnected scenes where communal living, dining, recreation, and family rituals unfold alongside four distinct private sanctuaries. Like a miniature painting revealing its narrative through layers and carefully framed moments, thresholds, terraces, courtyards, and views create a delicate balance between togetherness and retreat.
Over eight years, the design evolved alongside the family itself, allowing the residence to become deeply personal rather than simply resolved as an interior. A restrained palette of natural materials, crafted details, and controlled light lends the home a quiet sense of luxury, while Mumbai’s skyline becomes a constantly changing backdrop.
The result is a modern sanctuary shaped not only by design, but by time, trust, and an enduring creative relationship between the family and Ensemble Studio.
