On Saturday night our Scotts Crossing project was awarded for Urban Design at the 2025 Architecture Awards!

Buchan with have delivered a transformative urban intervention in the heart of Canberra’s city shopping precinct.

A new riverfront precinct is set to transform Brisbane’s Bulimba Barracks, following Development Application approval for the adaptive reuse of a heritage fabrication shed and a new riverside pavilion.

Designed by Buchan for Shayher Group, these buildings mark the first stage of a masterplanned community on the expansive 21-hectare site.

The WWII-era fabrication shed and the riverside pavilion will serve as a civic heart—anchoring the precinct’s identity and reinforcing its connection to place.

“The new neighbourhood will integrate with the surrounding residential areas, opening up opportunities for connectivity and access to the riverfront, and creating a new destination.” - Lynn Van Dievoort, Principal.

We are delighted to share that Scotts Crossing has been shortlisted for the 2025 ACT Architecture Awards, which celebrate design excellence in architecture across the state.

Shortlisted for both Urban Design and the EmAGN Project Award categories, and have transformed a vehicle-dominated roadway in Canberra’s CBD into a vibrant, pedestrian-focused public realm, prioritising social connection and community engagement.

Inspired by the historic Molonglo River, the design features sweeping ETFE canopies, lush landscaping, and enhanced building facades that frame the revitalised area.

With traffic diverted underground, the space is now a thriving, year-round destination, strengthening the connection between Braddon and the CBD.

The Australia Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan has officially opened!
 
Buchan is honoured to be Lead Designer for the Australia Pavilion and to work with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to bring Australia’s vision to life! 
 
The Pavilion takes its design cue from the ubiquitous eucalyptus tree and its gumnut. The eucalypt’s many shapes and colours symbolise the diversity and dynamism of the Australian people, and the Pavilion’s colourful facade represents a gumnut bursting into flower. 
 
The exhibition design captures the experience of walking on Country, with visitors taken on an immersive journey that engages all the senses.
 
Buchan has partnered with Japanese architectural and urban design firm to deliver the project in Osaka.
 
World Expo 2025 runs from Sunday April 13 to Monday October 13 2025.

It was a privilege to join dignitaries and business leaders to celebrate the official launch of the Australia Pavilion and Australia’s participation at World Expo 2025 hosted at the National Archives of Australia by the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon. Don Farrell, in Canberra.

World Expo 2025 runs from Sunday, April 13, to Monday, October 13, 2025.

Biyal-a Armstrong Creek Library is a welcoming community hub in Geelong, Victoria that evolves the traditional library to meet contemporary needs.
