Gerard Adriaan Heineken was born in 1841 in a family of Amsterdam merchants. In 1864, he bought the brewery “De Hooiberg” (The Haystack) in Amsterdam and focused on brewing an uncompromising premium lager from the very beginning. He was an enthusiast for the latest brewing innovations of his time and became the first brewer on our planet to establish his own quality control laboratory. These beautiful chrome armchairs in black colour were made in the 80’s in Italy. They are a real tribute to furniture designer Mart Stam, who is given credit with designing the first cantilevered chair in furniture history. His idea became a mid-century icon and a great example to other designers throughout history.

The design of the chair was novel for the time as it used standard pieces of chrome-plated steel tubing usually used for bicycle frames. Back then tubing was also seen as hygienic so the surface could be easily cleaned.

This extremely rare and iconic mid-century table lamp was made in the 70’s in Italia, designed by Gio Ponti for Fontana Arte. Gio Ponti (1881 – 1979) was an important Italian architect, industrial and furniture designer, artist and publisher. He was one of the most influential and productive Italian designers of the 20th century. Ponti became famous for his outstanding contribution to modernist architecture and design. His works range from iconic buildings such as the Pirelli Tower in Milan to furniture design, lighting and ceramics. He was also the founder of Domus magazine, which significantly influenced the development of Italian design. His furniture has always drawn deeply from Italian traditions and givem them a modern edge.

This gorgeous lamp is a perfect example of that. Made from two elements, a textured white aluminium conical base which rises into a delicate opal glass globe. On the bottom the maker’s sticker is still visible.
