Usually, I just coat my stones with epoxy resin for convenience.
But this Tsushima stone (対馬砥石) needs extra care. Since they tend to crack easily, the seller advised wrapping it up before use—even with the cashew lacquer already applied.
I went with Kozo Washi paper (楮和紙); the fibers make it much stronger than regular paper. It’s like creating reinforced concrete (fibers + glue) for the stone.

Henkotsu (へんこつ) : This word translates to “stubborn” or “eccentric“.
It reflects a meticulous dedication and strict adherence to traditional blacksmithing methods to achieve the hardest possible steel.
Iya demo kireru (イヤデモ切レル) means “It will cut even if it doesn’t want to” or “Undeniable sharpness.”
I tested its sharpness at the tree-top level on fine arm hair. Keep in mind, this is right after I had already finished shaving off my 2-week-old beard !!!

Finished this Kamisori straight from the stones—no strop at all.
