ผลงานชุดใหม่ ของ ธวัชชัย สมคง ‘MISS’ เป็นการบันทึกร่างกายของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ ผ่านภาษาของภาพเขียนนู้ด มิติที่แทบไม่ปรากฏในขนบของภาพนู้ดกระแสหลัก
ตลอดประวัติศาสตร์ศิลปะ ภาพนู้ดมักวนอยู่กับเรือนร่างของ “ชาย” และ “หญิง” ในความหมายดั้งเดิม ขณะที่โลกปัจจุบันเปิดพื้นที่ให้มนุษย์สามารถเลือกและกำหนดเพศสภาพของตนเองได้อย่างซับซ้อนมากยิ่งขึ้น
ธวัชชัย สมคง เลือกบันทึกร่างกายของผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ ผ่านผลงานจิตรกรรมที่หลากหลายรูปแบบ ทั้ง Realistic, Pop Art, Cubist และเทคนิคพื้นผิวหนาขรุขระอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของศิลปิน
คำว่า “MISS” แฝงความหมายไว้สองชั้น
ทั้ง “นางสาว”
และ “บางสิ่งที่ขาดหาย”
เมื่อทุกอย่างในตัวเธอคือ “ผู้หญิง” แต่ยังขาดคำนำหน้าว่า “นางสาว”
เช่นนี้แล้ว เธอคือผู้หญิงได้อย่างสมบูรณ์แล้วหรือไม่
'MISS'
A Solo Exhibition by Tawatchai Somkong
MISS, the latest body of work by Tawatchai Somkong, documents the bodies of transgender women through the language of n**e painting—a dimension rarely represented within the conventions of mainstream n**e art.
Throughout the history of art, the n**e has largely revolved around the bodies of “men” and “women” as traditionally defined. Today, however, contemporary society has opened space for individuals to define and express their gender identities in increasingly diverse and complex ways.
In this new series, Tawatchai Somkong captures the bodies of transgender women through a wide range of painterly approaches, including Realism, Pop Art, Cubism, and the artist’s signature heavily textured surfaces.
The title “MISS” carries a dual meaning.
It refers both to the honorific title “Miss” and to the idea of something missing.
When everything about her is undeniably female, yet she is still denied the title “Miss,” can she truly be regarded as a woman in the fullest sense?
Through these works, the artist invites viewers to reflect upon identity, gender, social recognition, and the invisible boundaries that continue to define who is accepted—and who remains unseen.
