Luenrit Community Building
Luenrit Community Building is a group of structures built in the late reign of King Rama V, classified as one of Thailand's earliest commercial shophouses. The land originally belonged to Khunying Luenrit, wife of Luang Ritthiraywen, and the local community named this district after her: "Luenrit."
The building complex consists of two-storey shophouses designed in Neo-Classic architectural style. The walls are load-bearing brick construction. The ground floor structure is concrete, while the upper floor is timber. The original hip roof was timber but has since been reinforced with steel framing. The entire roof is covered with cement ridge tiles. The gable faces are decorated with circular plasterwork. Ground floor doors are louvred panels with ventilation channels running above them. Upper floor windows are double-panel casements with carved wooden fretwork. The lower floor fascia is a timber lattice structure with steel angle bracing. The upper floor fascia is also timber lattice with carved decoration.
The Luenrit Community Restoration Project emerged from collaboration across multiple sectors, with the community as its central force. It is recognized as a significant site for learning about Bangkok's history and architecture. The Luenrit Building complex received the Architectural Conservation Award at the "Excellent" level in 2023, presented by the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage.
