TCDC Yala : A Space for Shared Possibilities

TCDC จังหวัดยะลา ภายใต้โจทย์ Culture Lab มีข้อเสนอในการออกแบบที่ตั้งต้นจากความเข้าใจว่า “ยะลา” เป็นสังคมพหุวัฒนธรรมที่ประกอบขึ้นจากผู้คน ภาษา ศาสนา และวิถีชีวิตอันหลากหลาย จนยากจะหยิบยกภาพหรืออัตลักษณ์เพียงหนึ่งเดียวขึ้นมาเป็นตัวแทนของทั้งจังหวัดได้ วัฒนธรรมของยะลาจึงมิได้ดำรงอยู่อย่างหยุดนิ่ง หากค่อย ๆ เคลื่อนไหว ทับซ้อน และเปลี่ยนแปลงอยู่ตลอดเวลาผ่านการอยู่ร่วมกันของผู้คนในชีวิตประจำวัน
ด้วยเหตุนี้ โครงการจึงมองว่า “วัฒนธรรม” ไม่ใช่สิ่งที่สามารถสร้างขึ้นได้อย่างฉับพลัน หรือกำหนดจากภายนอกโดยตรง หากเป็นสิ่งที่ค่อย ๆ ก่อตัว สั่งสม และเติบโตผ่านความสัมพันธ์เล็ก ๆ ระหว่างผู้คน ผ่านการพูดคุย การแบ่งปันอาหาร ความทรงจำ ประสบการณ์ และการใช้ชีวิตร่วมกันในแต่ละวัน
ดังนั้น แทนที่จะพยายามนิยามว่า “วัฒนธรรมของยะลา” ควรมีหน้าตาอย่างไร หรือควรถูกขับเคลื่อนไปในทิศทางใด โครงการจึงเลือกออกแบบ “สภาวะ” ที่เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้คนได้เข้ามาพบกันอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ ให้ความหลากหลายได้ค่อย ๆ ซ้อนทับกัน และเปิดพื้นที่สำหรับการแลกเปลี่ยนที่อาจนำไปสู่รูปแบบใหม่ของความสัมพันธ์ วัฒนธรรม และความเป็นไปได้ร่วมกันในอนาคต
แนวคิดดังกล่าวจึงถูกพัฒนาออกมาเป็น “การแชร์” ใน 3 ระดับหลัก ซึ่งค่อย ๆ เชื่อมโยงจากพื้นที่ทางกายภาพ ไปสู่วิถีชีวิต และขยายต่อไปถึงอนาคตร่วมกันของผู้คนในเมือง
-Share Space
การแชร์พื้นที่ ผ่านการวางผังที่เปิดกว้างและเชื่อมโยงกันอย่างยืดหยุ่น ลดการแบ่งแยกการใช้งานแบบตายตัว เพื่อให้กิจกรรมต่าง ๆ สามารถมองเห็นกัน เข้าถึงกัน และเกิดการปะทะสังสรรค์ระหว่างผู้ใช้งานจากหลากหลายกลุ่ม ไม่ว่าจะเป็นงานสร้างสรรค์ การเรียนรู้ หรือกิจกรรมธรรมดาในชีวิตประจำวัน พื้นที่จึงมิได้ทำหน้าที่เพียงรองรับกิจกรรม หากยังเป็นตัวกลางที่ทำให้ผู้คนค่อย ๆ รับรู้การมีอยู่ของกันและกัน
-Share Livelihood
การแชร์วิถีชีวิตและองค์ความรู้ ผ่านองค์ประกอบทางสถาปัตยกรรมที่เชื้อเชิญให้เกิดการมีส่วนร่วม เช่น โต๊ะกลางขนาดยาว พื้นที่ทำงานร่วมกัน หรือพื้นที่สาธิต ซึ่งเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้คนได้นำทักษะ ประสบการณ์ และภูมิปัญญาของตนมาแลกเปลี่ยนกับผู้อื่นอย่างไม่เป็นทางการ บางครั้งอาจเป็นเพียงบทสนทนาสั้น ๆ ระหว่างคนแปลกหน้า แต่การแลกเปลี่ยนเล็ก ๆ เหล่านี้เอง คือจุดเริ่มต้นของความเข้าใจและความสัมพันธ์ที่ค่อย ๆ เติบโตขึ้นในระยะยาว
-Share Possibilities
การแชร์อนาคตร่วมกัน ผ่านพื้นที่เปิดที่ไม่ได้กำหนดคำตอบไว้ล่วงหน้า แต่เว้นพื้นที่ว่างบางส่วนไว้ให้ผู้คนในพื้นที่เป็นผู้ตีความและกำหนดด้วยตนเอง เมื่อการแชร์พื้นที่และการแชร์วิถีชีวิตเกิดขึ้นพร้อมกัน พื้นที่แห่งนี้จึงอาจค่อย ๆ สั่งสมเครือข่าย ความไว้ใจ องค์ความรู้ และวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัยรูปแบบใหม่ ที่ไม่ได้ถูกวางลงมาจากภายนอก หากเติบโตขึ้นจากผู้คนและความสัมพันธ์ภายในพื้นที่เองอย่างเงียบงาม
TCDC จังหวัดยะลา จึงไม่ใช่เพียงสถานที่จัดกิจกรรม หากเป็นเสมือนโครงสร้างพื้นฐานทางสังคมขนาดย่อม ที่เปิดโอกาสให้คนยะลาได้สร้าง เรียนรู้ ทดลอง และค่อย ๆ นิยามวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัยของตนเอง ผ่านการใช้ชีวิตร่วมกันในทุก ๆ วัน

TCDC Yala under the “Culture Lab” brief is founded on the understanding that “Yala” is a multicultural society composed of diverse people, languages, religions, and ways of life. It is nearly impossible to select a single image or identity to represent the entire province. Yala’s culture is not static; it is a living entity that is constantly moving, overlapping, and evolving through the daily coexistence of its people.
Consequently, this project views “culture” not as something that can be abruptly constructed or dictated from the outside, but as something that gradually forms, accumulates, and grows through small-scale relationships between people. It grows through conversations, shared meals, memories, experiences, and the rhythms of daily life.
Rather than attempting to define what “Yala Culture” should look like or in which direction it should be driven, the project chooses to design the “Conditions” that allow people to meet naturally. It provides a platform where diversity can overlap, creating space for exchanges that may lead to new forms of relationships, culture, and collective possibilities for the future.
This concept is developed through “Sharing” across three primary levels, linking physical space to way of life and extending to the shared future of the city's inhabitants:
-Share Space Sharing through an open and flexibly linked layout that reduces rigid functional partitioning. Activities are designed to be visible and accessible to one another, encouraging interaction between diverse user groups, whether engaged in creative work, learning, or ordinary daily routines. The space does not merely host activities; it acts as a mediator that allows people to gradually perceive and acknowledge one another’s presence.
-Share Livelihood Sharing ways of life and knowledge through architectural elements that invite participation, such as long communal tables, co-working zones, or demonstration areas. These spaces offer informal opportunities for individuals to exchange skills, experiences, and wisdom. While these may start as brief conversations between strangers, such small exchanges are the seeds of understanding and long-term relationships.
-Share Possibilities Sharing a collective future through open-ended spaces that do not provide predetermined answers. By leaving certain areas “blank,” the local community is empowered to interpret and define the space themselves. When the sharing of space and livelihood occurs simultaneously, the center begins to accumulate networks, trust, knowledge, and a new form of contemporary culture. This culture is not imposed from the outside but grows quietly and beautifully from the people and relationships within the space itself.
TCDC Yala is therefore not just a venue for events, but a micro-social infrastructure that offers an opportunity for the people of Yala to create, learn, experiment, and gradually define their own contemporary culture through the act of living together every day.
