มีทั้งภัยธรรมชาติ แดด ลม ฝน ความร้อน ความหนาว น้ำ สัตว์ หรือ ภัยจากมนุษย์ การบุกรุก การมองเห็น การเข้าถึง

แก่งกระจาน เชลเตอร์ (KAENG KRA CHAN SHELTER) เป็นงานออกแบบสำหรับการใช้ชีวิตที่หลีกหนีสภาพแวดล้อมที่ไม่ปลอดภัยต่อการคิดงานศิลปะ art work การแต่งเพลง การเขียนหนังสือ การทำงานออกแบบ เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมที่ไม่ต้องการความหรูหรา แต่เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมที่ต้องการความปลอดภัย ตั้งอยู่ที่ อำเภอแก่งกระจาน จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ตั้งอยู่บนเนินเขาติดกับอุทยานแห่งชาติแก่งกระจาน ด้านหน้าเป็นเขื่อนแก่งกระจานมีลักษณะเป็นทะเลสาบ เป็นที่ที่ค่อนข้างห่างไกลจากความวุ่นวาย
เรามีความตั้งใจออกแบบให้แตกต่างจากบ้านพักตากอากาศอย่างสิ้นเชิง เพื่อให้ประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆเกิดกับผู้ใช้งานที่จะมาใช้ในแต่ละช่วงฤดูกาล หรือแม้กระทั้งแต่ละช่วงอารมณ์ของศิลปินที่อยากจะสร้างงานอาร์ต
เราใช้กำแพงและหลังคา เป็นเครื่องมือสร้างความปลอดภัยทางกายภาพ และ เชิงจิตวิทยา
กำแพงและหลังคาเป็นองค์ประกอบที่ต้องมีทั่วไปในงานสถาปัตยกรรมทุกชิ้นงานบนโลก ที่จะทำหน้าที่ให้มนุษย์เข้าไปใช้งาน แต่ การเลือกวางกำแพงและหลังคาของงานชิ้นนี้เราเลือกจังหวะและการเข้าถึงให้เหมือนที่หลบภัย ไม่เตะตา ถ่อมตัวกับบริบท

กำแพงไม่ได้แค่กันลมฝน แต่ทำหน้าที่
ควบคุมการมองเห็น — ใครเห็นใครก่อน
ควบคุมการเข้าถึง — เข้าทางเดียว / เข้าหลายจุด
สร้างขอบเขตความเป็นส่วนตัว
ในทางจิตวิทยา คนจะรู้สึกปลอดภัยเมื่อ หลังพิงกำแพง กำแพงหนาให้ความรู้สึกหนักแน่น ปลอดภัย
กำแพงกั้นด้วยกระจก ให้ความรู้สึกเปิดเผยแต่ควบคุมได้

หลังคา เป็นความปลอดภัยเชิงสัญชาตญาณ หลังคาทำหน้าที่ให้มนุษย์รู้สึกว่าถูกครอบ
หลังคาต่ำ ความอบอุ่น ปลอดภัย เหมาะกับพื้นที่พักผ่อน นอน ซ่อนตัว
หลังคาสูง อิสระ โปร่ง เหมาะกับพื้นที่สาธารณะ

วัสดุที่ใช้เน้นเป็นวัสดุเรียบง่าย ปล่อยไปตามคุณสมบัติของวัสดุ REAL MATERIAL หรือที่เรียกว่าสัจจะวัสดุ
เมื่อการพักพิงในสถาปัตยกรรมรู้สึกปลอดภัย ผู้ใช้งานจะมีความสุนทรีย์ในการหลีกเล้นมาเก็บตัวทำงานศิลปะซักชิ้นหนึ่ง

Residential architecture is a tool that separates us from external threats
both natural forces such as sun, wind, rain, heat, cold, water, and wildlife,
and human-related threats such as intrusion, exposure, visibility, and access.
Kaeng Kra Chan Shelter is an architectural proposal for living and retreating from environments that are not conducive to creative thinking. It is conceived as a refuge for making art, composing music, writing, and design work. Rather than pursuing luxury, the project prioritizes safety—both physical and psychological.
The shelter is located in Kaeng Kra Chan District, Phetchaburi Province, on a hillside adjacent to Kaeng Kra Chan National Park. Facing the Kaeng Kra Chan Dam, the site overlooks a vast reservoir that reads as a quiet inland sea. The location is remote, distanced from urban distraction and noise.
The design intentionally departs from the language of a conventional vacation house. It seeks to offer a different spatial experience—one that changes with seasons, time, and even with the shifting emotional states of artists who inhabit the space to create.

Walls and Roof as Instruments of Safety
Walls and roofs are employed as primary architectural instruments for establishing both physical protection and psychological security.
These elements are fundamental to architecture across cultures and time, wherever humans inhabit space. However, in this project, the placement and articulation of walls and roofs are carefully calibrated. The shelter is designed to feel discreet, almost hidden—humble within its context, never competing with the landscape, but retreating into it like a refuge.
Walls do more than protect from wind and rain. They function to:
Control visibility — determining who sees whom first
Regulate access — through singular or multiple points of entry
Define privacy and personal boundaries
Psychologically, humans feel safest when their backs are protected by a wall.
Thick, solid walls convey weight, stability, and a sense of permanence.
Glass walls, by contrast, offer openness while maintaining a controlled relationship with the outside.

The Roof and Instinctive Protection
The roof represents safety at an instinctual level—it gives the feeling of being covered, sheltered, held.
Low ceilings create intimacy, warmth, and a sense of retreat, suitable for resting, sleeping, and withdrawal.
High ceilings provide openness and freedom, appropriate for communal or shared spaces.

Materiality
Material selection emphasizes simplicity and honesty. Materials are used according to their inherent properties—real materials, or what is often referred to as material truth. Finishes are minimal, allowing time, weather, and use to shape their character.

When architecture succeeds in creating a genuine sense of safety, it allows its occupants to withdraw from the world with ease. In that state of security, space becomes fertile ground for contemplation and creation—where one can retreat, remain still, and quietly produce a single piece of art.
