Since the opening in March 1871 by Queen Victoria, the Royal Albert Hall has enjoyed continuous association with royalty. It was fitting, then, that two recently installed sculptures of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, have been officially unveiled by their son, His Majesty The King.

Radiant Architectural Lighting is proud that a custom version of its 3D LED Flex 25 IP 66 system was chosen to provide the all-important wall-grazing illumination to the curved niches housing the sculptures, which can be viewed by over 1.5million visitors a year.

The newly unveiled statues are mirrored by statues of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on the other side of the building, also illuminated by Radiant’s 3D LED Flex 25 IP 66 System.

The two-metre bronze figures of Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh were created by artist, Poppy Field and the 3D LED Flex 25 IP66 System was specified by EQ2 LIGHT with the project led by Mark Hensman.

EQ2 Light specified 4 x high-power LEDs with elliptical-beam lenses per module. The 3D flexible, modular LED lighting system is ideal for illuminating curved architectural profiles. Radiant developed a custom curved magnetic mounting plate, which allows for the system to be easily removed and reinstalled for maintenance, with anti-glare snoots ensuring visual comfort for onlookers.

The 3D LED Flex 25 IP66 System is an exterior, 3D flexible, modular LED lighting system delivering up to 3,500 Lumens per metre and is ideally suited to important, public display lighting.
