台中市位居全省之中，地理位置優越，氣候宜人，人口聚集，將屆百萬人，從漢人入墾迄今二百多年，已發展為中部地區的政治、商業、文化的中心都市。台中市在有二多，一是百貨公司多，二是餐廳、飯店多。台中市的餐飲水準不遜於北、高二個國際都市，肉丸、豐仁冰、泡沫紅茶和太陽餅等各式小吃、糕點更是遠近馳名。民國三十五年號召有識之士籌備成立「台中市烹飪商業同業公會」，迄今六十二年。

本會成立以來始終以「推廣國內外貿易、促進經濟發展、協調同業關係、增進共同利益」為宗旨。服務項目繁多，舉凡關於國內外商業之調查、統計、研究及發展事項；關於國際貿易之連繫、介紹、推廣事項；關於政府經濟政策與商業法令之協助推行與研究、建議、資訊出版事項；關於同業糾紛之調處事項；關於同業員工職業訓練、業務講習及社會烹飪、食品衛生管理推廣教育、技術研究之舉辦事項；關於會員商品之廣告展覽及證明事項及成立專責部門以執行「廚師證書」之發照業務。
