SAYO 是創辦人的泰雅族名字，在泰雅族語中意味著「認真、勤勞、美麗」。 創辦人胡素花老師，為了贈送具有在地傳統文化的紀念禮給遠赴他地工作的女兒，日夜設計製作出包物--泰雅背心手提包，成為了莎呦藝品坊該品牌的起始點。而後衍生出的商品，皆融合了泰雅族的文化概念與精神延續，希冀使泰雅文化力以不同的樣貌親近大眾生活。
